I was dating this guy in high school whose parents were missionaries in Liberia. After I graduated HS I couldn't afford college so I was working a dead-end food service job with no life, no plans etc. His parents invited me (without his knowledge even!) to come stay with them and help with their ministry. It would have been the opportunity of a lifetime - I would have LOVED it!! But then he and I broke up two months before I was supposed to go, so needless to say it didn't work out. Also, even though DH has been to Italy, he's never been to Cinque Terre, which I know he would love and I would die to visit again. All that's on the island is a small camp. It's well above the arctic circle. We went to watch thousands of beluga whales come into the bay to shed their skin. It was amazing. We stood on the beach just a few feet from them. I was dating DH at the time but I had planned the trip a year in advanced before we started dating. He was pretty bummed not to go. I was planning on taking him there this Christmas, but Suprise! Looks like we will be staying here and having a baby instead. Very happy for baby, but a tiny bit sad I would get to show him my favourite city. @Msmamabear mentioned Stingray City. I visited Stingray City in Antigua and it was incredible. I would have loved to share that experience with SO.
