Walking, standing, leaning on DH, rocking in the rocking chair, squatting, a little laying down, sitting on the toilet, yeah, pretty much everything.

On my back and on my side. My l & d was so fast they couldn't get me to stop pushing and kept turning me on my side.

@FutureMrsMcK: @Mummystar: I had back labor, too, and it was awful!

At home I tried all fours, on a birthing ball, and side lying. I think the ball helped the most. At the hospital I tried sitting and lying down mostly. I tried walking around and changing positions, but that only made it more painful. Once I got the epidural, I was confined to the bed on my back.

I spent most if my active labor in the tub. Once I got out, I was on all fours leaning against the bed until I started pushing, so basically transition only. I pushed on my back, how I never thought I would push! :)

@Mummystar: Oh man. My LO was posterior and I had awful back labor. I think I could maybe have handled it without an epidural (mine ended up failing--twice!) but I was throwing up every few minutes, was exhausted and completely miserable and desperately needed to rest. But I've heard the induced contractions are even worse! You're a trooper!

I did all my laboring at home and found it most helpful to perch on the edge of a chair, rocking back and forth.

I paced clutching my stomach at home and then was allowed to walk/wander anywhere in the hospital until the epidural, & then was on my back, (unfortunately).

I was induced and was connected to an IV most of the time, I spent alot of labor in a sitting position on a chair/the bed, or leaning on my legs and holding onto the top of the hospital bed. In the final hour or so I was made to lie on my left side since LO was posterior and had to get her to turn. While in a sitting or leaning position it allowed dh to massage my back since I was having killer back labor without an epidural.

I started at home on my ball, then rocked back and forth standing at the hospital, then laying down since I got the epidural...I preferred standing though.

Rocking chair position, I really didn't want to move from my rocking chair (they had one at the hospital). My husband kept telling me I was 'rocking' the shit out of the contractions.

When I was at home I was mostly on the ball, on all fours on the bed or sitting on the toilet. When the contractions were at their worst at home all I could do was lean over and rest my forehead on the kitchen counter.

When I was at the hospital I had an epidural and was confined to the bed. When it was working I tried to lie quietly and rest. When it stopped working and they wouldn't redo it (at first) I spent two hours sitting up, slightly hunched over with one leg tucked almost under me and the other hanging off the bed.

What positions did you labor in/find most effective?
