I think it depends on the temperament/age of your first LO, too. LO1 was 2.5 when the baby came so she knew how to be careful by then. I just set the baby down on the floor a lot on the play mat or blankets. If I was going to the bathroom, I put the baby in the pack n play since I felt that was safer for me being gone a few minutes.

I only leave them alone for a moment if DS2 couldn't be accidentally hurt, so, in the Pac n play DS1 would have to actively try to throw something at him versus accidentally stepping on him when he's on the floor. We also have a zero tolerance policy towards aggression to DS2, which has always earned an immediate time out. If I need to step away for more than a minute or so I typically give DS1 the iPad.

I've never had a problem with this. My son is 3 and he knows the baby is off limits. I can leave the two of them in a room alone for a few minutes with no worries.

I usually make sure the older one is somewhere safe instead! If I'm getting dinner ready or somewhere I can't directly watch, I have the little one almost always in the bouncer and the older one in the crib or strapped in the high chair.

If you have more than one kid, where do you put the baby when you need to set him or her down? I feel like all the safe places I had for DS 1 (swing, bouncer, couch, playpen) are all dangerous now when you add a toddler to the equation! All those places are accessible for thrown toys, poked eyes, toddler hits or pinches... Where in the world will I be able to set DS2 when he arrives!?
