My 3rd grade teacher got me organize myself so I would stop missing homework. I really like my 10th grade biology teacher. He really made me enjoy the sciences.

6th grade teacher.. he had a couch for reading in his classroom. He emphasized accountability and gave people speeding ticket-like tags for incomplete homework daily. He was also a lot of fun and let us do our work in peace. He maintained good rapport with the quiet kids like me as well as the loud kids like my cousin.

My 6th grade teacher. She made learning so much fun and had a way of making you feel so loved. To this day I still keep in contact with her. :)

My seventh-grade English teacher, Mrs. James. She was awesome. Showed me I had talent when I was going through rough times at home. She died of breast cancer a couple years after I had her. Still makes me so sad.

My 5th grade teacher Mrs. Fort. It was her first year teaching so she had all sorts of new ideas to make school fun and she was really passionate about teaching. I ran into her when I was in college and she recognized me. She said my first and last name, I thought that was so amazing that she remembers after all of those years! Unfortunately she passed away recently.

My 5th grade teacher Mrs. Johnson made such an impact in my life. One day, I wore a pink and white polka dotted dress to school because I just thought it was so pretty. It was a super fancy party dress but my mom let me wear it anyway because I never got to wear it even once. Mrs. Johnson called me up to her desk and I thought I was in trouble. She leans down and whispers to me "I just wanted to let you know that you look VERY pretty in your dress today. That's all." as she smiled at me and fixed the bow on my dress. And I remember feeling SOOO special. I will always remember her and that moment.

I love this because I'm a teacher and I always wonder about which kids will think back and remember me.

Mine would be my 2nd grade teacher. I have colon/stomach issues and in both 1st/2nd grade I was out of school for half of the school year because I was in and out of the hospital so much. My 2nd grade teacher would have all my classmates send me letters, she would stop by my house to check on me, and when I came back to school, she made sure to make me feel "normal" while still providing the extra things I needed (like I had to drink OJ 3-4 times during the school day).

In high school when I realized I wanted to be a teacher, I often thought back to the 2nd grade. I wanted to be compassionate, caring, and a great educator (I passed my grade even after missing so much school) like her.

My 10th/11th grade Calc teacher. She was a friend/teacher and helped me survive my heartaches with boys, taught me to recognize my intelligence, and instilled in me a drive to want and have all of my dreams! :) While there are many people in my life who have affected me, Miss C (at the time) definitely helped me to find my initial pangs of "maturity" "womanhood" and "self-confidence" in all aspects of my life.

Ooh, I'll play.

My tenth grade history teacher was by far the best teacher I've had. He drew these elaborate pictures on overhead slides, and used that one drawing to explain an entire event in history. Even now, after completing a degree in history (thanks, Mr Regan), I still can explain the entire French Revolution using a picture of a gate with three locks on it.

It also helped that he let us build a life-sized, functional (though very dull) guillotine for a project.

Mrs. Nysmith in third grade pushed me so hard and taught me so much. I learned to speed read from her, and that changed my life.

Mrs. McAllister in fourth grade gave me positive feedback on a research paper. It came at a key point in my development, and had a huge impact on my confidence. A single comment from her may have changed the trajectory of my life!

Mrs. Ilgner in sixth grade opened my mind and taught me how to think. Her favorite saying was, "It's not better, it's not worse: it's just different." She was the first person to really teach me what tolerance meant.

(All these teachers were from public schools.)

What school teacher (or teachers) changed your life the most?
