@LaughLines: DH stayed with me for both IUIs as I wanted his support. We made it a date for us where we had brunch after the IUIs before he headed to work & I stayed at home to rest. It actually wasn't too bad. There was cramping but I had taken some Tylenol prior to the procedure I think in anticipation of the pain. I joked with DH that I was getting turkey basted with his sperm and I needed to stay on the couch/ bed watching tv & relaxing so his sperm wouldn't need to swim upstream. 😜 In regards to DTD, my RE had specific instructions about when to DTD & also had us do some extra DTD on certain days. For both IUIs, I was monitored closely as they had me on 150mg clomid (femera did not work for me) and I had trigger shots so we knew the number of eggs & maturity level 2 days prior to the IUIs. I think it couldn't hurt to continue EOD but I do recall my RE telling us to DTD on the night of the trigger, then rest, then on the evening of the IUI, we were to DTD and could also do so the following day as well.

Did anyone have their DH stay for the actual IUI or did they leave after their part?

Well, I had ultrasound monitoring throughout with a trigger injection so it was easier to time. Maybe just don't DTD more often than every two days after cd 10 just in case?

Hmmm well 2 cycles ago I O'd on CD21, then last cycle was CD18... so I dont know if it will continue to move up or if it will stay around CD18... I don't like the uncertainty, at least without the IUI I knew when to DTD (EOD starting CD10)

What others said... I think we were told to abstain from sex/ejaculation for a few days prior. DH brought sample in that morning, I then came in. I was super nervous, I didn't know what to expect. The RE said DH's sample was not good (we knew that was part of the problem) and basically said he strongly recommended we do a back to back IUI (a 2nd one the following day). We declined because it was like an extra $500-$600 or something, and it was our first cycle. We decided we'd do it next cycle if necessary.

The actual procedure was explained to me as feeling a bit like a pap smear. This was accurate I found, although I apparently have a tilted uterus so it took a few minutes for the RE to get the positioning right of the catheter they put into the uterus. They actually got out the ultrasound to put on my abdomen, which he said was pretty rare. It was still under 10 minutes and although kind of uncomfortable, not painful, I would say.

They told me not to expect any cramping or anything and no need to restrict activity, etc, so I went straight to work. I did have some bad cramping for a few hours and kind of wish I'd stayed home, but maybe some was just my nerves.

They encouraged us to have sex that night and the next day or two. We did. It worked and I got pregnant. DS is 16 months old.

@LaughLines: I did my IUIs in 2012 so I'm trying to remember.... At the time I ovulated like clockwork on CD 17 or 18. I do remember trying to time DTD was a bit stressful because my doctor said to abstain 2-3 days prior but no more than that because they wanted fresh sperm or something like that. I would go for my IUI the day after my positive opk so we would have sex on cycle day 16.

@Mrs. Pickle: @FaithFertility: So if you aren't supposed to DTD 2-3 days before IUI, do you just not DTD at all since you don't know when you're going to get the positive OPK? I would be nervous we'd get the pos and we DTD the night before or something.

Exactly as above! My DH did not have a low SC but with held 2 days before
We DTD the night of the IUI and the day after can't hurt at that point!
My RE also did B2B IUIs 1 12 hrs after surge and another 12 hrs after that
So I had 2

It's not painful. It's very quick. Your DH will provide his sample, then you'll wait while it's being processed. That took about an hour at my clinic. After that you'll go back for the insemination. Your doctor may do a practice run to find your cervix first. The entire thing takes a minute or two. Then they'll have you lay there a few minutes. You may experience some cramping the rest of the day. My DH has a low sperm count so we withheld from having sex 2-3 days prior to the IUI.

I'm doing my first IUI this cycle. What should I expect? My RE's nurse just briefly talked to me about it on the phone today so I don't know much about it other than what I've read on here.

I'm taking femera, then doing opk's and am supposed to call when I get a positive (the last two month's I've gotten positives and confirmed ovulation with 7dpo progesterone tests, but BFNs). No other monitoring or trigger shots.

Is the IUI painful?
Should we still be doing timed intercourse EOD just to get more attempts on top of the IUI, or should DH be "saving" it for a better sample for the IUI?
Did your DH stay with you for the IUI or leave after he provided his sample?
