Hubs brought pjs, change of clothes, toiletries, and swim trunks. I knew I'd be spending time in the jacuzzi while I labored and I wanted to have the option of having him in there with me. He didn't end up using them though. Also snacks, a book, camera, and water.

@rahlyrah: Wow, you are a better wife than I am!

@T.H.O.U.: Umm if my DH complains about anything hurting while I am in labor he is getting smacked!

Pack him some ibuprofen or whatever he normally would take for a headache. I get that requested quite a bit from dads (when i work up on postpartum) and even though mom is getting ibuprofen, we can't give any to dad! Better to pack some than have to go buy a whole new bottle.

@lawbee11: My DH brought his ipad and cell phone and chargers for both. He had a hoodie and flip flops on and packed pj pants, extra boxers and t-shirt. He refused to shower at the hospital (we were only there 24 hours after the birth). I packed him a toothbrush, which he did use, and we had snacks for both of us. Bring cash for vending machines if your hospital has them.
Other than that we were just busy with the baby or visitors and didn't need much. Plus we live 15 minutes from the hospital so he could have gone home if needed.

@T.H.O.U.: There was a nursery, but I kept the baby in the room with me and took care of him myself. DH would leave around midnight each night and return around 8 the next morning. For the most part, I stayed up all night holding LO because he would cry in his bassinet. It was brutal, but if he would have stayed neither of us would have slept. I was happy that at least he could get some rest!

Pillows and Blankets. My room had a pull out bed for him but no linens. We stayed two nights and he showered both mornings so he needed PJs and two changes of clothes. He also drank a lot of gatorade.

He had like a pair of comfy shorts and a tshirt that he brought to sleep in. And then a fresh set of clothes for the next day.

I think he also brought some slip on shoes and a pair of tennis shoes. Someone said that their DH didn't have comfortable shoes and was complaining about his feet hurting during labor! I can't imagine so I made sure he had comfy ones.

Also an extra pillow for him!

Flip-flops or slippers might be nice, don't forget the ipad charger. DH was jealous of my sleep mask. Good pillows for him b/c the "chair bed" sucks.

Some things depend on your hospital. I gave birth in the winter and the room was super-hot until they were sure L's temperature was regulated - DH would have liked a pair of shorts. My friend just gave birth in the same hospital and her room was FREEZING - her DH would have liked a sweatshirt!

And, TMI, but I know my DH would have appreciated some, um, odor-masking spray for the bathroom.

My husband needed "house shoes" because it was snowing outside when we delivered. But, otherwise I would have packed him an overnight bag of sorts, with a change of clothing and toiletries. We lived about 25 minutes from the hospital and there was no rooming in for the dads, so my husband went home each night.

Nothing but his laptop/charger. We have dogs, so DH went home every night and slept. He offered to stay in the hospital with me and the baby but I talked him out of it. I wanted him to go home and get a good night's sleep (you won't sleep much in the hospital) so that he could be on baby duty during the day and I could nap.

I am planning to pack my hospital bag this weekend. I am a total over-packer...it's bad. So I am trying to decide what's really necessary and what's not. I think I've got a good list for me and baby, but I have no idea about DH.

How much stuff did your DH need? Did you pack extra clothes for him? Did he shower at any point? I am thinking camera, iPad and snacks for sure. We also only live a couple of miles from the hospital, so I guess he could run home if necessary.

What did your DH bring to the hospital?
