We have one dedicated guest room, but I like the option to have guests stay in one of my kids' rooms rather than on an air mattress, if, say, DH's parents and my sister in law both come for the holidays. You could fit a queen if you wanted. But for a kid's bedroom, I guess it depends on your needs. I think our kid's bedroom might be around 12x12 and we used to have a queen and now have 2 twin beds. Plus a dresser, plus a kallax shelving system for toys, plus two toy boxes.
