@T-Mom: I have noticed that! Especially on one set that I bought used from eBay - worn just once, I looked at the 3-6 month tag and laughed! It was smaller than the Baby Gap 0-3 months stuff! But I do think RL makes some really pretty girls' stuff so it's hard to resist!

@Mrs. Pen: Glad that system seems to work. But I agree, "vanity sizing" for babies suck! Maybe also because babies vary in size in different countries? idk if that's true...

@Bao: I just went yesterday, but I plan to go again sometime in May/June to get some summer stuff for Cobi. :) I like that they at least have the stuff available to see online - it lets me know if it's worth the trip!

@shopaholic: that's how I organized LO's clothes before he was born too. TCP is usually right on target as far as sizes go - maybe a tad big, gap is big, carters is a little small, H&M is HUGE etc etc.

@Crumbs: I'm a little confused... okay so they go by height? so if my LO is 27" tall, he is 68.5 cm, so that IS technically 4-6 mos US?
So why does your list have 68 cm at the bottom of infant sizes? I am unsure how they translate...?

@sarac: yeah, the pair of pants I bought him that were 9-12 months he can technically wear - they are really baggy - but he could wear them now and I can see them fitting until he's 2 because they are really long (we cuff them 4x) and have an adjustable waist.

@Bao: aww bummer! I go a couple times a year (it's an hour away) if you want me to let you know next time I'm there - I can pick some stuff up for you and just ship it! :)

@shopaholic: RL stuff is notoriously small! You should put your LO in those before she actually hits the age.

I find H&M fits huge too! My LO would probably fit into some 4-6 month stuff as the 6-9 month sweaters and pants are a little big on him. I can't see him fitting into his 9-12 month stuff for at least 3-4 months if not longer! He's about 21 lbs and 28-29".

T is 8 months and wears H&M 4-6 months and has plenty of room to grow (I roll the sleeves on the sweaters). He's probably around 15.5 lbs and as you know on the smaller side ; )

HM stuff is really weird. Some of the dresses she wears at size (18 months now, she's 16 months), but she has this amazing pair of 6 month jeans that she's literally been wearing for a year. They're my absolute favorite in terms of baby clothing.

@Crumbs: Makes sense. Kind of like the HA sleepers size too!

@Mrs. Pen: LO's not here yet, but when I've been hanging and organizing her clothes I notice such a BIG size discrepancy between brands! So I started just stacking them for comparison and kind of putting the same size by look together instead of only looking at the tag by months! For instance, the Ralph Lauren stuff all looks so small and all the "sports team" stuff we've gotten look huge! At least it sounds like H&M stuff will last longer!

H&M follows the Swedish sizing in centimeters, even in the States. In Sweden, clothes are only labeled based on cm, not a specific month. So a size 68, for instance is 68 centimeters, which makes it easy to figure out what size your LO's wearing since they always get measured at their wellness appointments.

Putting a month equivalent is just sorta arbitrary. For instance, my favorite H&M cardigan for DD is size 68 or a 4-6 month US. She's 67.5 cm now and it fits her perfectly, but if I went by the US size, it would have been ginormous! I think they need to adjust what sizes they equate in months for the US market.

Here's the Swedish sizes based on H&M (other brands offer a premie size 44 and lump everything up into "baby" and "boy or girl" sizes that go up to 122). So my suggestion is to look at the EUR size on the label, convert it to inches, and ignore the US size in months altogether. Hope this helps.

DS is 16 mo and his 12-18 mo pants from h&m are way too big. Way too long, and waist I have to fold over. He is small though. We have some 18-24 mo sweaters though that are wearable.

E's 2-4 month sweaters and dresses lasted until she turned 6 months. But she's in the 4-6 right now and they fit perfectly at 7.5 months. She's in the 50th percentile for height and weight, so pretty average.

H and M runs huge! My LO is 7 months old and has just started fitting in her 2-4 jeans from them. Most of her H&M dresses are 4-6 and they are still a little o. The big side. I'm pretty sure she will be wearing them for a while.

H&M sizing can be way off depending on the item! My 18 month old (on the small side at 21 lbs) fit in an old H&M 4-6 month dress recently... also a 9-12 month cardigan. She also has a 1-2yo sweater handed down from her sis and it's a little big, but fits fine too. You just never know!

and how old are they?

A long while back I bought a cardigan and pants for Cobi, sized 9-12 thinking they would fit come winter time. He is 11 months now and I imagined he would have been in them. He IS on the small side; he fits into mostly 6-9 months in Childrens Place and 9 months in Carters, 6-12 in Gap. But I went back to H&M to get him some sweaters that would fit- and he is in 4-6 months there!!!!! Is this normal for H&M to run that big?! I held the 4-6 month pants up to his 6-12 month gap pants and they are about the same! In fact the 4-6 month H&M is even a little bigger and I have to have the waist adjustment on the tightest setting and they are still roomy!

Is there a big size discrepancy for your LO?
