She is almost 7 mos now and still fits into some of her NB shirts (I find carters are long enough oddly enough). The nice thing about NB photos is that they are posed just so you can 'photo shoot alter' some items. LO was born 6 lb 14 oz and wore NB until this week. Some 0-3 fit and some are still too big. Took him to dr on Tues and he is already 9 lb 8 oz at 25 days old!!! My DD was 6lbs12oz and only 17 inches. She was in newborn sizes for awhile (too bad I didn't actually have any since everyone said they grow out of them immediately). His umbilical stump fell off at 10 days- I would recommend NB photos closer to 2 weeks old. Huge difference! So it really depends on how big your baby is at birth. I can't remember exactly but she definitely was not out of 0-3 months. I like the idea of getting both and returning one. You might find the newborn size juuuuust fits, and the 0-3 months a little loose. She still (at 4mo) has a few NB pieces that fit her (obviously brands that must run really big) so it'd really depend on baby and brand. He never fit into newborn clothes at all and was only in 0-3 mos or 3 mos until week 4-5. You could buy in both newborn and 0-3, but leave the tags on. Then you can return/exchange whatever size didn't fit for the photos. He's always been long and lean for his age, though, so he never really fills stuff in and grows clothes out lengthwise first. Do you plan on doing 3 month photos, too? It totally depends on your baby - I agree with @artbee, would be good idea to get different sizes. (some stuff skips 0-3 and is just nb or 3m). Ordering after baby is born isn't reeeeeally an option only because I don't want to worry about it coming in on time or me simply forgetting.
