@artbee: @Mrs. Bee: @krsmall: You guys are right since I can't tell at this point: I'll get both sizes and either keep them for him or return what I don't need.
I hope he's in NB sizes because I still want him to look like a newborn...just a litttttle heftier and not so fragile

LO was born 6lb 12oz and work NB for a good 6-8 weeks, she was just a very slightly built baby. She is almost 7 mos now and still fits into some of her NB shirts (I find carters are long enough oddly enough). The nice thing about NB photos is that they are posed just so you can 'photo shoot alter' some items. She spent most of her NB shoot naked or in just a daiper, but we just taped and clipped anythign that was too big for her so it looked like it fit and the clips/tape were out of frame.

sort of like this guys suit for a magazine shoot

I wondered the same thing while pregnant! LO was born 6 lb 14 oz and wore NB until this week. Some 0-3 fit and some are still too big. Took him to dr on Tues and he is already 9 lb 8 oz at 25 days old!!! To big for NB and too small for some 0-3...grrr

I think Mrs Bee and KRSmall have good advice, either buy two sizes and return, or pick it out online and purchase after your LO is born. My DD was 6lbs12oz and only 17 inches. She was in newborn sizes for awhile (too bad I didn't actually have any since everyone said they grow out of them immediately). Now she is in 0-3 month but a lot of it is still too long.

Mine was still in NB clothes at 4 weeks- but he also had horrible baby acne from 3-6 weeks. His umbilical stump fell off at 10 days- I would recommend NB photos closer to 2 weeks old.

i would put what you want to buy on your amazon wishlist, and then just click buy after your baby is born.

charlie was way bigger than expected at 8 lb 6oz, and Olive was way smaller than expected at 4lb 15oz. Huge difference! So it really depends on how big your baby is at birth. Charlie was wearing 0-3 month sizes while Olive was wearing newborn sizes at 4 weeks.

Our LO was big at birth - 8lbs 12oz, but she fit into newborn for quite a while. I can't remember exactly but she definitely was not out of 0-3 months. I like the idea of getting both and returning one. You might find the newborn size juuuuust fits, and the 0-3 months a little loose. That's ok for every day, but for pictures I'd go with the one that fits better.

Months? You can return the stuff that doesn't fit?

DD was 7lbs when she was born and was in NB for months. She still (at 4mo) has a few NB pieces that fit her (obviously brands that must run really big) so it'd really depend on baby and brand.

we neverbought any newborn clothes everything was 3-6months or bigger. they looked a littlebig for the first week or two but they grow so fast. Its honestly hard to tell because each baby is different.

I'm probably the odd one out, since DS was 95% for height and weight at birth (and still is at 18 months). He never fit into newborn clothes at all and was only in 0-3 mos or 3 mos until week 4-5.

You could buy in both newborn and 0-3, but leave the tags on. Then you can return/exchange whatever size didn't fit for the photos.

NB. She was in NB a lot longer than I expected. She was 7 lbs 3 oz at birth and didn't start wearing 0-3 (or Carter's 3 m) until 6 weeks.

He was in newborn clothes until about 6 weeks old. He's always been long and lean for his age, though, so he never really fills stuff in and grows clothes out lengthwise first. Do you plan on doing 3 month photos, too? If so, you could buy a newborn and a 0-3 outfit and if the 0-3 outfit is too big, you can save it.

LO was 7.5 LBS at birth, and she was still in newborn at 1 month. It totally depends on your baby - I agree with @artbee, would be good idea to get different sizes.

she was in newborn for the first three months, and wasn't even an exceptionally small baby.
Every one is different, but I would buy newborn.

It really just depends on your baby. I had a big baby, she was 8 lb 13 oz when she was born, and she was only in newborn clothes for a couple of weeks. She was in 0-3 month by 4 weeks.

We plan to do our newborn photos at 4 weeks so we have time for unbilical cord to fall off and I can deflate a bit:) But now that I am shopping for his stuff, I don't know whether to get NB, 0-3, or 3M stuff? (some stuff skips 0-3 and is just nb or 3m).

Ordering after baby is born isn't reeeeeally an option only because I don't want to worry about it coming in on time or me simply forgetting.
