LO is about 7.5 months old and we have done mostly purées so far. We've done: butternut squash, sweet potatoes, apples, peas, green beans, pears, yogurt, oatmeal, and a bunch of different combinations (peaches/pears, banana/avocado, sweet potato/red lentils, sweet potato/beef/broccoli, chicken/zucchini/apple, squash/cherries, apple/carrot/mango). I usually put cinnamon in the fruit combos and I've done a bit of sauteed garlic/onion in the savory ones. (I make the purees by steaming in a steamer pot and blending in my vitamix.)

We don't purée anything; we just kind of mash it up. Babies begin to develop the ability to 'chew' around 6 months, whether or not they have teeth. Our LO just kind of mushes food around between his palate, tongue and gums (he's just over 6 months).

By spoon, we've given him: banana, porridge with mashed banana and cinnamon, natural yoghurt, avocado with lemon, and mashed up chili and rice (lots of spices but no heat), cooked smoked salmon with garlic & lemon

Finger foods so far: sliced mango (he DEVOURED it and just left the skin; it was amazing!), banana with a handle (like this: https://lunchingmom.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/blw-banana-pic.jpg), slices of roasted/fried bell pepper, steamed/fried broccoli florets (sometimes with garlic), steamed carrot sticks, scrambled eggs, and he's also gnawed on whole apples and pears that I've been eating (mmm slobbery!)

Even though we're not doing full out baby-led weaning, I found it really helpful to read the book (the Baby-led Weaning Cookbook is even better, actually) as it gives you information on how a baby's eating skills develop physically and reassures you that they can have herbs and spices. I recently bought a couple jars of baby food for LO to try and they are just so BLAND. I want my kid to experience flavour! :)

If you are interested in BLW, definitely check out the Baby-led Weaning Cookbook (maybe at the library?), which gives clearer guidelines than the first book. Here are some guidelines written by the author as well, including information on choking: http://www.rapleyweaning.com/assets/blw_guidelines.pdf

We do a mix of purées and finger foods. DS likes to chew but isn't super great at getting food to his mouth so I hand feed him bites. DS gets fruit and yogurt or fruit and cereal in the morning. We've done sweet potato, apples, pears, mango, green beans, peas, carrots, mixed veggies, squash, banana, peaches, and potato in purée form, then combos of these including berries, spinach, hard boiled egg yolks, olive oil, coconut oil, quinoa, amaranth, brown and white rice, asparagus, kiwi, pumpkin, and broths. Finger foods have included avocado, berries, grapes, squash, salmon, kiwi, pears, cherry tomatoes, tangerine flesh with no skin, puffs, and yogurt melts. We have done cinnamon, a little garlic, a little onion, ginger, and turmeric.

I did modified BLW. I basically just gave her whatever she was physically able to manage. I specifically gave her food with lots of spices, varying amounts of heat, etc. The few things she reacted to were easy to identify and leave off until later.

@autumnleaves: i just use my regular blender. Do you add a bit of liquid when pureeing? I add a bit of water to get a smooth consistency.

Can you guys tell me how to do BLW? You just cut up the food in big pieces and let them handle it? I worry that the pieces they bit off will be a choking hazard.

We did Baby-Led weaning, so we fed DD pretty much anything except raw carrots/nuts or anything that consistency.
Meats, cooked veggies, fruits, hummus were all hits. We always seasoned the food while cooking but kept the salt under control. You can feed your baby whatever you want ;)

@Pumpkin Pie: did you buy a special blender/chopper to purée the food ? I tried puréeing roasted carrots and butternut squash but there were still chunks in it.
My 7 mo has had sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, peas, green beans, peaches, pears, banana, avocado, oatmeal, and rice cereal. He really likes green beans, sweet potatoes, and bananas. I read that spices shouldn't be added till 8 months but everyone has their own timeline for doing these things.

LO loves cauliflower! We've done that, brocolli, sweet potato, bell pepper, oatmeal, pancake, banana, Apple sauce. Basically spices how we would eat it without salt, sugar or anything too hot. We're also doing mostly BLW (and no teeth!).

My LO will be 7 months next week and we started solids at 6 months. We have taken it pretty slowly, but we have done carrots, peas, avocado, banana, peaches, oatmeal, and cherries. It's not a bad idea to do an iron-fortified cereal like oatmeal. Sweet potatoes and butternut squash are good too. Depending how you feel about introducing allergenic foods, you might try eggs.

My lo will be 7 months in a little over a week.

I've also done sweet potato, zucchini, egg yolk (hard boiled), and a large chunk of steak to suck on. I'm staying away from spices (although she hates everything so maybe spices would help).

All veggies and fruits have been steamed and puréed.

My Dr said health canada guidelines are to introduce anything and everything food wise, no waiting on potential allergy causing foods. And iron rich foods are good because around this age babies lose their iron stores. Only things to avoid were egg whites and honey.

So far we've tried peas, carrots, apples, pears, bananas, and avocado. I've been steaming and pureeing/then freezing. What else should we try? LO doesnt have teeth yet.

What are you feeding your 6-7 month olds? Do you use any seasonings? Are we allowed to? I thought it should just be the food, and nothing added, but one of the daycare moms said she put cinnamon in the apples.
