@Mae: I'm with you! I'm constantly feeling "off" and it's driving me crazy! I don't even feel like I can really complain, because compared to what some people go through it's not even that bad...but...that feeling definitely wears you down.

What surprised me most, though, is how unreal it feels. I'm just 7 weeks along and, until we have the first appointment, I feel like it's superstitious to even talk about an actual baby being in there! It just doesn't feel real yet.

I had heard morning sickness was awful, which I've been lucky to not totally get with any pregnancy, but I didn't realize how truly painful pregnancy can be. With my 1st, everything hurt - my pubic bone felt like it was breaking in two, the swelling causing carpal tunnel and itching, round ligament pain, horrible indigestion.

And then I didn't realize how truly different each pregnancy could be. Pregnancy 2 was worlds easier though it had its crappy points too.

About pregnancy: How much it sucks to feel just a little off. Every day. All day. All Week. All month. Month after month. I know I'm really lucky that I was never REALLY sick, and really only even "pretty sick" for like two months. But I just felt OFF the entire 9 months and it was really hard on me mentally/emotionally.

About myself: Could not have cared less about reading books about pregnancy or babies. To this day I've still only read like 2/3 of one book and that was about breastfeeding.

I thought pregnancy was supposed to lower your immune system so I was pretty surprised that I didn't get sick the entire time I was pregnant (besides morning sickness of course!). I think not drinking, sleeping a ton, and drinking a lot of water did wonders! Not expecting a repeat of that for baby number 2 though.

I was surprised by a few things...
1. How horrible morning sickness is. It's not the vomiting, it's the curled-up-on-the-floor nausea
2. The wives tales people believe (don't raise your arms above your head or your baby will strangle on the umbilical cord...wut?)
3. How insanely awful the last month is. My whole pregnancy flew by but the last month was like molasses in January in an igloo
4. How much fun I had making a baby boy nursery

@Adira: I was going to say the exact same thing! It was fascinating to see my body transform. And the positive body image stuck to some extent because I wasn't so obsessed with being the "right" size, I was proud of what my body had done, and I had so many other more important considerations in my life!

I was surprised about how my body image changed to something positive! I've been overweight for the majority of my adult life and I never really liked my body, but being pregnant made me feel so confident and I love how having that belly made me look and feel!

This is my first pregnancy and I'm only a little over 8 weeks, but what has surprised me so far is the fact that being pregnant feels almost exactly like having a bad hangover.... and the fatigue! I knew I'd be tired, but I didn't realize just how overwhelmingly bone tired I would feel all day every day. Kudos to all you mommas doing it with toddlers running around!!!

@sarac: @BandDmommy: My doctor said the same, keep doing whatever you are doing. Just watch your heart rate. After labor she asked if I had been working out the whole time, I said yes, and she thinks that is part why I had such an easy labor. But who knows.

How sick I would be. Even though I'd seen my mum and sisters go through it, it knocked me off my feet. For #2, even though I had already been through that before, I had obviously forgotten the horrificness of it.

Also, how huge I would get! I have never been a big person but put over 60lb on for each kid. That had been hard to cope with.

How much and how hard I was able to exercise after the first trimester. During pregnancy we're told to take it easy and to not do anything but the barest minimum in terms of exercise, and it's just false and obnoxious. I managed to avoid extensive deconditioning and felt great my entire pregnancy. I wish more women were encouraged to continue their normal exercise routines to the extent that they feel up to it - it makes a world of difference.
