@Mae: I'm just seeing this but glad that worked! We bought pretty much every swaddle product on the market. For a while we had good luck with an A&A blanket under a woombie. But yeah we used everything and I don't know that it really helped. Good luck!

UPDATE: I've been wrapping her in a double swaddle since I started this thread and she has (knock on wood) yet to bust out. Genius, and free since I already had the a&a swaddle blankets.

Another huge fan of the love to dream swaddle - DD loves being tight but having her hands up. I think it's a good transition for swaddle weaning too.

my dd needs her arms out it seems. we use the halo sacks but she can get her arms out and seems to prefer it. wondering if we should stop swaddling all together or try something like the strap..

We used the summer infant swaddle me (with the Velcro) for both kids. We're already in the large size for DS because he is a giant 18 lbs at 10 weeks! He hasn't broken out of it yet.

My DD hated to be swaddled, needed hands by her face/over her head, so we used a sleep sack pretty much from the beginning. I also used an A&A just around her legs.

@loveisstrange: ahh i see. I think I need some practice before I'd attempt that. I don't feel like my inner wrap was very good, but I wasn't that concern because I was going to zip her into the halo sack anyways :)

@Mae: Instead of using 2 blankets or a blanket and a swaddle, I would just use the first blanket with nothing over it. It would still pin down her arms, but leave her legs free for some air flow.

@mrsrain: yea that is what i did this morning for the first two naps, but she kept flailing and startling herself awake.

So I just tried the double swaddle then zipped her into her halo swaddle sack and wrapped the swaddle arm things around her. She fell asleep pretty fast (faster than arms out, not as fast as just the swaddle sack, but she also seemed pretty confused by what was going on so it could be a learning curve). As long as she doesn't seem too hot when I take her out I think I might give this a try tonight. I'm not sure how she could bust out of it! Even if she got her arms out of the A&A blanket, she'd still be stuck inside the halo sack.

We use a SwaddleMe, but we're trying to wean her right now. Around the age of your LO she was starting to bust out her arms somewhat. I think that was our clue to wean, but we pushed it to 16 weeks. Her startle reflex is still strong so it's hard!

@illumina: good to know someone had success with cold turkey during crib transition! We're attempting that now and it's rough so far! How long until she wasn't startling herself so much?

Have you tried swaddling her with her arms out? My LO is almost 9 weeks old and has never liked to have her arms restricted. We use sleep sacks or swaddle blankets (the kind with velcro) and just swaddle her with her arms out.

@Mae: In the summer we would just swaddle him up in his diaper only!

Also, we transitioned out of the swaddle into the Magic Sleepsuit. It was awesome and not too hot (again, he was only in a diaper).

@Mae: I started by leaving 1 arm unswaddled and then both arms unswaddled once she started fussing about her swaddled arm, she adjusted to ot really well! I kept her in the "no-arm swaddle" for a while because she seemed to like it wrapped around her chest until I bought a regular sleepsack. She stayed swaddled until the startle reflex went away around 3.5 months and by 4 months she was swaddle free

Definitely the Swaddle Strap. I posted a similar thread almost as soon as we came home from the hospital and ended up trying the Swaddle Strap we had. It works miracles. The only thing I'd suggest is using long sleeves underneath for more friction.

Also though-- if anyone here has swaddle stuff their kids have grown out of and they aren't using and might want to sell-- pm me! I'm not sure if I can say that here? But I didn't see any on the classifieds. This tired mama is willing to try a variety of stuff, but at $30-35/product I'm not sure how many I want to buy new before I know what will work! :)

We use blankets, but do a double swaddle- I fold a receiving blanket into a long thin strip, place baby in the middle and then take one edge and fold it over her arm and under her body. Repeat with the other side to create a "baby straight jacket" then swaddle as normal. I've never had any of my kids be able to break out using this method!
