Very similar where he came home from school with it, but day care didn't see anything happen (and they are also very cautious). After a day or so, it sorta took on more of a rug burn feel to it and then bruised over but never appeared to hurt him. We just guessed at that point he had somehow gotten a rug burn without noticing it. It's not marker, she was wearing black pants so it's not a transfer of dye, and there were no incident reports from school (and they are EXTRA cautious and tell me about everything).
