We will probably be going on a cruise next fall when our baby boy will be about 6-7 months old. It'll be with family and family friends, so there will be plenty of people to help "pass around" the baby. I'm sure we'll get a night or 2 to have a nice relaxing dinner on our own without having to pay for the nursery services. We've been on cruises before, so I'm not too concerned about missing exciting excursions. We'll probably just take it easy the whole time and just explore on our own or hang out at a beach when we stop. We probably wouldn't do a cruise that early if it were just the 3 of us, but I think it sounds like so much fun with this group!

I'd like to do a Disney Cruise when D is around 3 or 4. I feel like we'll get a lot more out of it if he's potty trained. Seems like most of the pools and splash pads require it. Plus I'd like to take advantage of the babysitting and have some time in the adults only areas.

@illumina: No, with Holland America. But I have been looking at Disney cruises and LO's are cheaper than adults (though, still expensive!!) It was just $99 for LO, plus fees, which came to about $125 total additional to add her on.

@yoursilverlining: Was that with Disney? The British ones I looked at (P&O etc.) charged so much just for an infant. But, their kids' club starts at 2, weird!

Knowing my son, there's no way he would stay at the kids club. So I'd just go with the expectation that he stays with us the whole time, and if he does go to the kids club, it's a bonus.

@illumina: That’s not always the case. LO was only an additional $99 for our cruise. Just look for a cruise with a 3rd/4th person free or reduced, and you’re LO can go for much cheaper!

We’re going on a Caribbean cruise in December, when LO will be 2.5 years old. I would have taken her before now though, it just didn’t work out that way. The cruise lines we are interested in (Disney, HA, Viking River) don’t offer daycare type programs under 3 years old (or at all), so she will be with us 24/7; which we are totally fine with.

We will do plenty of excursions still; the shore excursions we are interested in are friendly for children. I am thinking about doing a swimming with dolphin one or snorkeling one, and my DH has zero interest in doing either of those so if I do one like that I’ll just do it myself and DH and LO will have a day together.

If money were no object then 3, so she could do the kids' clubs. But it's pretty expensive to take kids cruising since it's basically the same as another adult...so I don't think we'll be doing it for a while.

We are going on a Disney cruise in 1 month, DS will be 22 months. The free kids club doesn't start until 3YO so we are unsure if we will pay extra to send him to the nursery. We haven't planned many excursions since he still takes a nap and we do t want our expectations to be too high, lol. The only negative about bringing them before they are potty trained is that they can't go in the pool. Luckily Disney has a really cool splash pad area for the little kids. I'll let you know how it goes in a month!

Once potty trained and eligible for daycare. Usually we do active excursions, like scuba diving, snorkeling, tubing, etc. so we probably wouldn't bring her....but to a beach, possibly.

I wouldn't be opposed to taking her at a younger age if we were going with family who could potentially watch her from time to time, but otherwise Id wait until she was old enough to go in the pool and go to the daycare.

An acquaintance of mine is growing on a cruise and her LO can't use the cruise childcare until she's three and potty trained so that might be something to consider? I don't think her child can use the pool while still in diapers either.
