I have the Braun ear one too; I always just check both ears or check twice.

We have the Braun ear thermo and the kids are fine with it. I take readings from both ears.

We have the Exergen temporal artery thermometer and the Braun ear thermometer.

The Braun is easier to use except my three year old hates it and won't let me use it. I use it on myself, though.

The Exergen one is tricky to use (you have to drag it from one spot to another), but LO is more likely to cooperate with it for some reason.

@jape14: We have the Safety 1st one and I think it's fine. M just had her second fever ever this week and I've been checking her under the arm. I tested in myself arm and mouth and both readings were the same so I'm trusting them.

I have a standard cheapy underarm thermometer (apparently can be used rectally or orally as well). It's the kind my mum always used on us and I have used it since she was two months old when I first checked her temperature. It has worked great for all of us so far.

I have a Graco and Exergen and I think the Graco is more consistent. The Exergen drives me crazy.

We have the Braun ear theromometer and I really like it. I'm not 100% convinced I always get an exact temp, but it seems to be very consistent.

We recently bought this infrared one and have been super pleased. It is SO fast and has lined up well with the temps on our standard digital (which I would just use if I didn't have such a wiggle worm if a toddler).

I tried the exergen forehead thermometer and could not get it to work properly. Now I just use a basic regular thermometer (I think a safety 1st one I got at a shower) under the arm and have no issues. DS (2.5) knows he has to "wait for the beep" and usually requests to take our temperature as well.

For a rectal temp in a younger kid, I use the free thermometers from the hospital labeled with an R so as to not confuse them haha!

We just went through this this weekend. We have an the braun ear thermometer, and a safety 1st with three different probes for oral, axillary, and rectal temps, and a cheapo Walgreens digital thermometer I tried to use under his arm. He couldn't figure out the thermometer under the tongue and the underarm temps were nowhere near right. Nothing gave a good temp

I think I'm gong to get the exergen forehead thermometer for next time.

I really don't even need a thermometer to tell me if my son has a fever, he gets really lethargic and glassy eyes, and kind of stares off into space. I can tell just by touching him.

But if I want to know the actual temperature, I use 2 thermometers. One is the forehead scanner and the other is in ear. I then split the difference between the two.

I'm looking for a non-baby thermometer. All of the ones we have tried in the past have been a bust. Which thermometer do you use for your toddler or older child? Do you think forehead or ear is the way to go?
