DD 1 (turning 4 at the end of September) and DD 2 (2 years) both go to bed between 7:30 and 8 right after their bath and wake up around 6:30 AM.

My girls are 6, 4, and 2. We follow the same schedule year-round because they go to daycare and have to be there the same time every day because both parents work year-round. The 6 and 4 yr olds are in bed by 7:30, sleeping by 8. 2-yr old is in bed by 6:30/6:45, sleeping within minutes. Older two have to be up by 6:30am but are typically awake before then, sometimes as early as 5:45. We let the 2 year old sleep until shortly before we leave the house (7ish) and she is almost always still sleeping. She sometimes sleeps til 8 on weekends. 4-yr old and 2-yr old still nap, but only about 1-1.5 hours and both seem ready to drop the nap soon. The only time we deviate from this schedule is camping, but even then only about 30-60 min later than usual.

DS 1 is 9 and we just changed his bedtime to 8:30. He is usually up by 7.

DS2 is four next month and goes to bed at 7. He is up by 6 like clockwork. He usually naps a couple times a week but this doesn’t affect bedtime.

DS3 is 3 months and has been going to bed around 8.

Even though I’m home I’m pretty strict for bedtimes. The big kids get to stay up late sometimes if we have company or somewhere to go to. But if we are at home then I need them in bed.

My kids are 9 and 7. During the school year we aim for in bed by 8:30. We're trying to do in bed by 9 this summer. They're in summer camps 8/9ish to 4/5ish as childcare and then they swim or play with neighbors until I drag them home so they need their rest.

They're usually up by 6:30 regardless of bedtime but I know they're tired because lately they've been sleeping until 7:30 - something I've dreamed of for a long time.

My boys are 5 and 10. During the school year we aim to be in bed and reading by 7:30, asleep by 8. Baseball season makes that a little tough to hit, usually they are asleep by 9.

During the summer we don't really have a set bedtime. Usually it's whenever I feel like sending them to bed! Sometimes it's 7:30, sometimes it is 9.

My youngest will sleep later if he goes to bed later. My oldest has an internal alarm clock for 6:30. Doesn't matter what time he went to bed. If we have a late night one night, I do try to get them to bed at a reasonable hour the next night.

@Chuckles: our schedule is pretty consistent—bed time 7:30, usually asleep 8:00-8:30, up 6:30-7:00, nap 12:30 - 2:00/2:30. The next time we have a vacation week we’re going to try dialing nap back to 1:00-2:00 and see how it goes. She’s skipped nap a couple of times recently and that is not a good situation for anyone, but she seems ready for a little less sleep based on how hard bedtime has been recently. I will say we’re lucky in that no matter how sleepy she is as soon as she’s awake she wants to see what everyone in the house is doing, so we don’t have trouble getting her out of bed.

@Lahela017: yeah, I was just chatting with DH and I'm going to try 12:45-2:15 today. She does often take a walk after dinner, but it's more of a leisurely stroll  We'll have to encourage more running and jumping.

@Chuckles: My 3 year old still takes a pretty solid nap almost every day too. In your case it really sounds like she needs the nap if she's that hard to wake up from one... You could try making naptime earlier if it's messing with her bedtime though. Or make sure she gets some outdoor time before bed to get all the wiggles out?

My kid has always been high sleep needs though, so we've made it a priority. She's 3 and she sleeps for 12 hours at night plus a 2 hour nap most days....

@karenbme: not to thread jack, but when/ how long does your DD nap? During the school year, DD goes to daycare daily where they have to allow 2 hours for naps. And we leave the house by 7:30, so having her sleep in when she didn't nap became a problem

But for the summer she is only going 2 days a week. The problem is that once she falls asleep for nap, she's really hard to wake up. I'd love to limit her nap to an hour, but then we're spending like 30-45 minutes trying to get a tired and crabby toddler to leave her crib.

DD is 7. During the school year her bedtime is 8. As in we leave the room between 7:50-8 and she is normally out within minutes. and she wakes up between 6:30-6:50 (she sets her alarm for 6:50 but wakes up before it goes off at least half of the week).

In the summer her bedtime doesn't technically change but I am more open to going to events that get us home late - fireworks, baseball games, big cookouts, etc. So I'd say once or twice a week we are out until 9:30/10 and she goes straight to bed, but the rest of the week she is still normally asleep by 8/8:15. During the school year we do very, very few things that will keep her up past her normal bedtime.

My almost 4.5 year old goes to bed at 7:30, but often doesn’t fall asleep until 8. Wake up is between 7:30 and 8. She often sleeps later if we push her to stay up later, but definitely not always, and sometimes the opposite. She hasn’t napped in years.

@Chuckles: we’ve definitely had the random up until 10:30 nights, I feel your pain! If we (or daycare) let DD sleep until 3 bedtime is a nightmare, but she also goes down at ~12:30 most days.

We’re pretty strict with our 2.5yo’s 7:30 bedtime. She’s getting ready to shorten her naps so a lot of the time she whines through the monitor about being stuck in her crib until 8:30 or so. It might be different if one of us stayed home, but we need to be out the door by 8 for work/daycare so it is what it is.

My just turned 9 year old has lights out between 8:30 and 9 both during the school year and in the summer because he wakes up around 6:30 daily.

My 2.5 year old is rough. When she naps, which is most days, she often sleeps hard and for 2 hours. Then she's awake until like 9:30 :bummed: She wakes up between 7 and 8 usually. If she doesn't nap for more than a couple days in a row, she's a mess and sleeps really late, so I think she still needs to nap, but it's driving me crazy. Update: it's now 10pm and she just announced from her crib, "I'm the tooth fairy and tooth fairies don't sleep, so I don't need to sleep anymore." Today she napped from 1:30-3:30, but refused to get out of her crib until 4. She also randomly pooped at like 9:45, which doesn't usually happen, so that's part of it tonight. :crying:

I only have a 3 year old. Her bedtime is 8:00. She usually sleeps until 8:30 or 9:00 in the morning though, so we might have to adjust bedtime when preschool starts this fall.

Summer bedtimes - DD (6 year old) between 8 and 9. DD2 (1 year old) between 7 and 8. DD2 rarely sleeps past 6:30. DD1 is usually up by 7.

In the school year I try to have both girls in bed by 7:30 at the latest because 5:15 comes early 😭

I'm just curious! Our summer bed times vary wildly than our school year bed times (but wake up times don't...*sob*). Just wondering when your kiddos go to bed?
