Yeah, we both fall asleep with the kids (me with the baby, him with the 3yo/6yo). Just can't seem to make the weekday evenings anything but a mad rush!

@Anagram: The first week DS woke up early every day, probably because he was excited. Now I have to wake him most days at 6:30. He’s in bed about 7:30 and most nights asleep right away.

My kids adjusted right back into school schedule. They are in bed by 7:50 and usually totally asleep by 8. Tonight I had to work really late (I'm still here actually--UGH) and I called around 7:45 to say goodnight and my husband said they were already asleep!

My 4 year old is still waking around 6-6:10 each morning. The 6 year old sleeps till around 6:30-6:40. They both have really busy schedules this year, so I think they are tuckered out between school, and dance/soccer/gymnastics/theater/chess after school.

@Alba4: that is a late practice!

@shabang: I’ve been going to bed at 9 most nights! Lol! DS1 gets a shower every other night and the baby gets 1-2 baths a week. The evenings are rushed but we try to make the best of it.

I don't know how you all do it! Sometimes my 1st grader and preschooler are in bed by 9, but not always. Everyone is out the door by 7am, but they probably only get up about 15 min before that. I get home with the kids by about 5:45, my husband around 6:45, but we're barely getting dinner together and eaten before 7:30, much less baths/showers and bed.

My first grader is in bed with lights out between 8:15 and 8:30. I’d love to get him into bed much earlier, but it’s really hard. Plus he has soccer practice until 7:30 one night per week (wtf).

@hellobeeboston: I’m worried about the time crunch in the evening. I go back to work tomorrow. So far 7:30 has been doable since I’m home to get dinner ready early. Tomorrow we’ll all be home by about 5. Got to have dinner, get the baby to bed then get DS1 to bed. Going to be interesting.

I'm trying to pull back from the later summer bedtime, but we try to head up at 8 and be asleep by 8:30... i'd love bedtime to be right at 8, but it's a struggle when we get home at 6 after sports and work to do dinner and get some time to hang out.

@ALV91711: this year we get home at 4:30 and it is AMAZING. Last year we got home at 5:45. It was incredibly, incredibly difficult. Especially as a single parent. But we don't have much wiggle because we leave at 6:40 every morning, so I'm up before 5:30 and the kids have to get up at 6.

ahhhhhhh.....my kids were both tired last night, so they were asleep by 7:30. And then they were both up at 6 sharp, which is mildly annoying, because I'd prefer they sleep until 6:15-6:30. Since I leave for work at 6:45, I need some alone time to shower and dry my hair, etc.

Tonight, I'm going to try 8pm again and hope they sleep till 6:30 at least (since tomorrow is a weekend!).

We’ve done 7:30 bedtime and then he reads in bed for 15-30 minutes. I haven’t had to wake him up yet this week. I think it is because he is so excited to go to school. Today he got up at 5:45, luckily I was already up with the baby.

My first grader is in the shower at 7pm, little sister takes a bath after her, then stories for both and lights out. They share a room. Lights out probably at 7:45ish. They have to get up at 6:45 to get the older to school on time. Today, the 3yo wasn't having it. She went back to sleep, which thankfully was fine, because I could stay home and hang until she woke up around 8.

@Silva: DS seems to need 11 hours in bed and I’m afraid he’s not going to get it and be a mess at dinner. I go back to work in a week and we won’t be home until about 5. Usually we eat dinner by 5, so this will be a big change. Then it will be a rush to get everyone to bed.

We aim for about 11-12 hours of sleep, but it takes my daughter awhile to fall asleep. Typically lights out between 6:30-7:00 and I'd say she's usually asleep 7:30-8:00. She wakes up around 6:30. If it's been a few days of trouble sleeping, she will crash more quickly, maybe asleep by 7:00. VERY occasionally she will sleep in, and I wake her up around 7:00.
The bus picks her up right at 8:00 and I'm a SAHM so our dinner schedule is flexible.

My son is going into SK - he’ll be 6 in January - and bedtime is between 7:15 and 7:30, and we have to wake him up at 6. I wish he could get more sleep - waking him up is usually a battle and on weekends he’ll often sleep later - but it won’t work for our schedule.

@Foodnerd81: I woke DS up at 6:30 this morning and so far he’s good but it’s only been half an hour.

@Pumuckl: that is really awesome that all your kids go to bed at the same time. I really think winter is easier to an early bedtime but also harder to get up when it’s dark.

@HappyBaker: @periwinklebee: I didn’t have to set an alarm until after DS1 was 3 for sure, maybe later. DS2 is another early riser and I don’t see needing an alarm for another couple years at least.

I set my 6 year old’s ok to wake clock 15 minutes earlier, to 6:45, this morning in anticipation of first day tomorrow. She was wide awake and up and dressed by 6 am sitting in her room waiting, when DH got up to pee. Also woke up once overnight. And that was with us putting her to bed at 7:45. It’s 8:15 now and she’s already had a meltdown. It’s going to be a rough transition...

@ALV91711: Thanks for asking this question - I have been struggling a bit with bedtime-timing here too. So we currently have a pretty sweet spot were all 4 go to bed together. Usually we aim for 7:30-8pm. Although lately DS1 will often roam about and not sleep until 8:30pm or even later. He gets up at 6:45am or 7am at the latest. I hope he'll be able to fall asleep faster once it's not as light out and it's cooler again...
