IF (and that's a big IF) we're lucky his bedtime is around 8.

He's been up until 1am though. Those nights are brutal :(

I feel the SAME way!! LO is in bed around 7:15, 8 at the very latest if we are out and about. She sleeps until 6-7 every day so I don't want to mess with it, she needs 12 hours of sleep and due to our work the latest we can let her sleep is 7 am. I get bummed at BBQs and outings that we have to duck out as soon as we get there though. She's a bear if we keep her up any later than 8 though!

@sslm: I'm still struggling this too. DD goes to bed around 9:30 and while I think it would be wise to make it earlier, I'm afraid to try, as she currently sleeps from 9:30 to sometime between 5 and 6 without waking. I'm concerned that if we move to an earlier bedtime she'll start waking in the middle of the night to eat....

It's 7 pm. I don't mess with it because when I have pushed it later, it backfires. If her afternoon nap is bad, we put her down at 6:30.

@sslm: I wish I had some magic formula to give you! I think it was a combination of him getting older and taking more structured naps during the day. We didn't really have a bedtime routine until recently and he was eating every 2-3 hours until he was about 5 months so it really seemed silly to have a "bedtime" when he was up so much. So he'd just sleep in our arms until we went to bed around 10. But now that I am back to work and he spends the day with my mom, she has him on a strict nap schedule which I think has helped push his bedtime earlier. He wakes up at 5:30, first nap at 8:30, and second nap around 1 and then goes to bed at 6:30, although it's sometimes a struggle to get him to stay up even that late!

Give it time, I think your LO will slowly move to an earlier bedtime. Have you tried moving it up maybe 15 or 30 minutes?

@petunia354: how did you move it? Our LO sets her bedtime at 10pm and we'd really like to move it earlier. Any tips would be awesome :) (she's 11 weeks, don't know if that matters)

8.00-8.30pm for 8.5 months. But that's with 3 naps, and he sleeps through the night*, so we're reluctant to change that up too much right now.

* hoping I didn't just jinx this evening's sleep pattern.

7:30 though lately his afternoon nap has gotten so late he often isn't asleep until 8. He is up around 6/6:30. He's almost 14 months.

It was 7 pm for the longest time. That sucked because he only ever sleeps 10 hrs overnight which meant we were up at 5 many days!

9:30! But...but, he is almost 9m and still doing 3 naps.
So, 3 naps + 12h a night sleep means that he isn't tired until about 9:15-9:30pm.
Works out great for us. I imagine it'll move up once he eliminates a nap or 2.

I've felt the same way before. When she was around 8 months her bedtime was 5:45. Then she moved to around 7 and now at 11.5 months she usually lays down at 7:30.

But a lot of people I know are out with their babies later than 7:30 and their kids don't go to bed until 9, 10, or 11. I get jealous that we can't go watch fireworks or go to some of the nighttime music events that we have here in the summer but I also don't want to mess with her sleep and I do value the alone time DH and I have. It also makes it easier when someone wants to watch her so that we can lay her down at 7:30 and then go get a late dinner or something and they don't have to worry about her bedtime routine.

LO is 5.5 months, and like @Rubies:, goes to bed between 5.30 and 6pm. part of this is because of our long commutes and having to start our day really early (and therefore ending it early). i definitely get pangs of self-doubt when i see parents out with their babies much later, but that's how things have worked out for us.

@Rubies: My LO had a 5:30/6:00 bedtime forever...I miss it! She used to sleep 6:00pm to 7:00am up until about 15 months...

Now at 19 months her bedtime is 8:00pm. We start her bedtime routine no later than 7:30 and she's in bed by 8:00pm. She wakes up between 7:30am and 8:00am. Sometimes I think about waking her early to try and get her to a 7:00am to 7:00pm schedule, but for now the 8:00am to 8:00pm is working for us.

9 months, 9 pm since 3.5 months. We tried to move it earlier but LO would just cry instead of falling asleep. It works out well for us since DH gets to spend time with LO in the evenings. I don't see how we could ever put LO down before 7:30 with our lifestyle.

Since I stay home and my husband used to come home from work between 7:30 and 8 pm our boys have a later bed time around 9 or 9:30. At one point it was 10 pm. Yikes! My oldest (4) would sometimes stay up lying in his bed until 11pm. That was when I said no more. So I've been trying to get them in bed and sleeping by 9:30pm at the latest. Now that I'm doing this solo for a few months I do try to move things up so I can get more down time before bed time. My oldest usually wakes up around 7:30am and my youngest (15 months) around 8:30am. Works for me! Overall, they get enough sleep. If my oldest sleeps late I nap him the next day to make up for the loss hours.

Lo is 9.5 months and is in bed between 7.30-8 usually. She sleeps through until 6.30-7. If her naps run late then her bedtime gets pushed back. This allows her to have her dinner with us and for dh to spend some time with her before she goes to bed.
