@T-Mom: Even a little rectal distention can delay food passing through the stomach, and cause nausea and decrease appetite.

I haven't read about someone pooping and then eating more, but I could see how pooping might increase appetite. I'd think it would take a little more time, but who knows!

@mrbee: DD has woken up a few times at night to poop, but never right after going down. That's craziness! LO likes to poop in the middle of dinner. Literally while he is eating. Then he will continue eating as if nothing is the matter, presumably since now he has more space in his tummy? Ack, poop. Gotta love it.

It varies. Some weeks it will be first thing in the morning after he wakes up. Other times it will be after dinner. Lately he has been unpredictable.

It used to be right after he ate but then it started changing and it's still changing at 3-years-old. Lately it's right before or after he naps, mostly before like today. And he poops really quick now. I don't miss the days when he would drag on his poop sessions and make me sit there with him.

As for my 6-month-old, it also changes too. For a while he's been doing it once a day at night after we eat dinner or right before his bath. That's ideal for me, b/c, like you said, who wants to poop after you're all clean? Now it's more like in the mornings. I noticed that his schedule will change if we mess it up by, for example, being out all day long. :P

I hate dealing with poop. I have many more years of it. Yay.

She goes within 30 mins of wake up, again an hour later after breakfast, and right after she wakes from her nap.. Around 12.30-1pm. Sometimes she'll go once more in the pm.

Often about a half hour after lunch and dinner ... it can make the after-lunch nap dicey! I've been trying to move lunch up a bit so that if he's going to go, I can take care of it before naptime.

Sometimes he poops right before waking up, too ... he's quite prolific with No. 2.

@autumnlove: @BoogieBea: Our daycare teacher told us it's pretty common for kids not to poop at daycare until they're comfortable... Charlie never ever poops there, and another girl didn't poop there for over a year!

He does it right after returning from school now. Sometimes, at school at the time I pick him up. I don't think he's comfortable telling his teacher yet so he waits until he sees my husband or I.

Charlie has been pooping in the evening... it used to be just before his bath, but it's been getting later and later. Last night, he pooped after I put him down... it's like, why did I spend all that time getting you bathed and ready for sleep if you're just going to poop!

Poor guy... who wants to poop after their bath? I washed his booty though and he passed out right away after I put him back down, thank you oh poop gods.
