I think it depends on your boys. Ours are waaaaaayyyy to into activity to take a nap on a plane. There's just too much to see! I vote book the cheapest one and buy yourself a drink on board! :)

If they're used to white noise when they nap/sleep, the plane is good for naps bc it creates lots of white noise, it put mine to sleep right away! I'd do the 12-3 flight just to make sure we got home with plenty of time to relax, etc...

I vote the later slot. I had luck getting DD to nap on planes when she was younger (>6 months) but haven't been able to get her to sleep on them since (now 14 months). I'd rather have her up and well rested than gamble that she'll sleep and have her screaming and cranky.

I said it'll be tough whenever lol. My kids have never been on a flight so I think they will be too excited.

I would not count on a nap during the flight so I voted 3-6 to ensure a nap beforehand.

I have had pretty good success getting LO to nap on planes, so I vote nap time. I recommend running them around before arriving and then again in the terminal and boarding at the end of the line, even though the ground crew generally wants people with kids to board early. I have made this work by bringing as little as possible on board and trying to not have to gate-check anything.

It's a crapshoot. No matter what I do or try to plan, my son is way too excited to sleep on the plane, even if it's his naptime.

I'd do what works best for you, considering also time to travel to the airport and to your destination when you arrive. It's my goal to have my son settled in before bed time.

We're planning our first visit since the boys were born to visit DH's family in MI (we live in FL). The boys will be about 18 months old when we fly.

The flight there will be in late evening, nothing we can do about that, but we have a few options for the flight home. Would it be better to fly 12-3 pm, right around what I expect will be naptime, or 3-6 pm? Is it realistic to expect that they would nap on the plane if it was naptime, or probably not? Or is it better to do it later in the afternoon and try to get them to take an earlier nap before we leave for the airport? The flight lasts just under 3 hours.
