I usually take it when I actually wake up, even if I was already awake for a little bit.

@LindsayInNY: That's a really good idea! That way I don't have to be blinded by the brightness of my phone right away in the middle of the night too.

@MrsBrewer: What about a little notepad by your bed? Just scribble the first temp down right after?

@LindsayInNY: But that means I have to record my temp right away! hahahaha.....I normally just keep my eyes closed and listen for the beeping....because my thermometer has a memory....oh first world problems.....

That's a great idea though, Maybe I will do that for the next week. Although Hopefully my dog will start making it all night soon!

@MrsBrewer: Technically, I suppose the temperature outside would... Maybe temp twice - when you take the dog out and in the morning? See if there's any consistent pattern with each set of temps and go from there?

@LindsayInNY: I'm only outside a few minutes with her (when I take her out...otherwise I just stay in bed and DH takes her out) so not long at all. Buuuutt It's cold out....(10-15 degrees, but I bundle up) So would going outside in cold temperatures change my physical body temp when I would temp when I actually wake up?

Geez....sorry if this is sounding really confusing!! LOL

How long are you usually out with the dog? If I wake up and go to the bathroom at 2am, I just go back to bed and temp when I wake up for good. Generally speaking, I use the final wake up time to temp unless I wake up within an hour of whenever that is. I'm not too strict about it on weekends so if a late temp is really out of whack, I'll just discard it.

If that is the case, I think just taking it when you wake up fully for the day should be totally fine. I think consistency is key so as long as you do the same thing every day (or as close as possible) it should give you a good idea for your chart.

Do you fall back asleep quickly? I always took mine when I "woke up" for the day, even if my sleep had been disrupted for a few minutes. As long as you wake up at a consistent time with the same distraction I think you should get an accurate chart for temp shift purposes.

So we just got a new puppy, and we have to take her outside to potty around 2-3 AM every night. I normally go to bed around 9:30-10:00 PM every night and I wake up at 5:30-6:00 AM, so if I would temp when I get up to take her out I would have the 4 hours of consistent sleep at least. Or do I go back to sleep, and take my temp at 5:30-6....but then I won't have the 4 consistent hours of sleep before I temp.
