It is best to travel after your Lo goes to sleep for the evening (at least for your sanity)

We always leave for the beach Friday evening at LO's bedtime, or a little before, that way she sleeps through most of the trip. If we drive up Saturday and leave Sunday, I always feel like I spent the entire weekend driving, and no time enjoying the beach.

I've had bad experiences with beach traffic, so I would tend to say later in the evening to *try* to avoid most of it. Though sometimes there's not much you can do about it, I guess

I'm doing the same thing this week. We're leaving on Thursday around 6-7 depending on when we can get out of the house!

I still lean towards hitting the road at 7pm to beat rush hour traffic. Because that way you have ALL day Saturday at the beach. And just hope you don't hit too much traffic. :P

I'd leave directly after work, if at all possible. Can you pack the car the night before and bring it to work fully loaded? I guess this depends in which direction your day care is, as well.

For us, no time is ever a good time. We tried going early in the morning, late at night, during naps, etc. Now, I just prepare by bringing lots of diversions!

Are you driving alone?

If not, I would leave immediately after work if there won't be too much traffic. Have someone sit in the back with her to feed dinner/bottle/etc. My LO will usually be awake for a while and then go to sleep with some soft music on in the car.

If you were going away for a weekend and had to drive 2.5 hours, what time would you leave? You have an 11 month old who's bedtime is 6:30pm and naps at 8:30/9am and 2pm.

Keep in mind, you're heading towards the beach so there will be rush hour/beach traffic. Also, you don't get home from work until 5pm.
