I'm so sorry for your loss. I haven't had a second pregnancy as I had a miscarriage at the end of September at 12 weeks so I can't give advice about what I went through with a second. But I can tell you that my doctor said next time I get pregnant I would have HCG levels drawn and more detailed monitoring. Early US & more frequent appointments. I did have a molar pregnancy so that probably effects my drs decision about monitoring, but I don't think any of these things are unreasonable for anyone who has had a miscarriage. Best of luck to you at your appointment and that a successful pregnancy is just around the corner :goodluck:

If you need support on HB, the Beyond Miscarriage Support group is an amazing group of ladies. I wish none of us needed that group but its nice to have a place where other women understand how you are feeling.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your dr will of course let you know what you need to do as far as following up and when you can try again, but I'd say that asking for early betas the next time is a reasonable request. It sounds like your practice is pretty responsive since you had early ultrasound this time. The good news is that in all likelihood this won't happen again and you'll be able to try again soon and go on to have a successful pregnancy. I know that doesn't make losing this pregnancy feel any better  Take care of yourself and best of luck

I said it on the June thread, but I'm so, so sorry. My m/c experience is fresh in my memory, and I miscarried naturally.

At my follow-up, I wanted to know:
When I could start trying (she said after my first real period)
How she would monitor the next pregnancy
If this happens again, at what point do you start testing?

With the second question, what she did was lay out my options: Everything from betas right away, repeated until 1500, when we could do an ultrasound weekly until heartbeat and beyond down to "treat like there was no m/c". I asked for a middle-of-the-road approach, which we decided on a 7-week ultrasound but she said all the options would be open to us. When I got my next BFP, though, I called to ask if I could do betas, and had them done. That helped my anxiety quite a bit. Now I'm waiting until my ultrasound.

With the last question, she said not until after 2 or even 3 miscarriages.
Hugs. I'm so, so sorry.

Hi all. I am/was 6w2d pregnant and I am pretty sure I am miscarrying. Ultrasound on Monday showed no yolk sac or fetal pole, ob/gyn's estimate was 5w, I started spotting brown today and then it seemed like a light period (I always have light periods). Had another US today and no growth, in fact, they changed the estimate to 4w6d. They weren't optimistic. I'm waiting on my HCG numbers tomorrow.

My question is, what should I ask the doctor about for future pregnancies? Like, I'm going to ask them if they think I had a blighted ovum, how long should we wait until TTC again, etc. But I want to know what I should "ask" for in regards to the next pregnancy - like, betas right away? Vaginal US at 5 weeks, 6 weeks? A prescription for progesterone? I just want more monitoring and support next time and with this obgyn I need to be my own advocate, but I'm not sure what to ask for / what is too much?

If you've had a loss and then another pregnancy, how did your ob/gyn handle the 2nd pregnancy?
