We routinely drive 8 hours to and from the Toronto area to see DH's family, and we drove all the way NYC-south Georgia with both girls last Thanksgiving, which was about 18 hours of driving since we had to stop so often with a newly potty trained kid.</p> <p>Anyway, 4 hours will fly by--just bring some snacks, maybe some small travel puzzles, a magna doodle, some crayons and a pad of paper, and a phone with some tv shows or games. Now that the girls are "older" (11 months and almost 3), we can go 3-4 hours at a stretch without stopping. It was some noise putty I'd picked up at a museum gift shop, but Target and other stores have it too. He couldn't get enough of the silly sounds.</p> <p>Otherwise, we make sure to have snacks, his music, and a few toys to play with. It's usually helpful if one of us sits in the back with him (he's still RF). It's also helpful if we time the drive to coincide with naptime. We left after breakfast, before nap time, so she played in the car for about 1 hour,and then napped in the car for about 2.5 hours. We stopped for lunch, I let her run around a little, and we were back on the road. We sang songs, talked to her, etc.</p> <p>We brought snacks, stuffed animal toys, stacking cups, balls, books, tablet. He is up for a bit then naps for a bit then has snacks. We regularly do a 3-4 hour drive depending on traffic. For this year's, I have water wows, magnadoodles, new books, audio books, and reusable sticker books. I'm making magnetic activity trays with dollar store baking sheets, magnetic Popsicle sticks, race cars and alphabets and felt paper dolls. Add snacks, tablets and stops as needed. So a phone or a tablet (we have the kindle fire) work great for him. He also tends to fall asleep if we time it pretty good.
