DD calls her great-grandmother "Nana" but it's easy for us since her grandmothers are Grammy and Nanee.

@MOMTOLITTLEB: My thoughts go out to your family, losing a family member is never easy, no matter how old they are.

@ALV91711: Nana the great - that's hilarious! I love it. My mom might want to be called that.

@808love: I like this too, perhaps GrandnaNa would work. Its easier to say than Great Nana.

Thanks again everyone. I love seeing all the different names. I'm sure that DD will end up calling her something completely different than what we decide

We just call them "Great Grammy Lastname". Technically the "Grammy" is spelled differently for each grandmother, but spoken aloud, it sounds the same. And then there's one "Nona." But I think you should go with whatever your grandmother wants to be called.

My Nana goes by Nana the great to all the greats in the family. Not sure who started it but it has stuck.

Sometimes the kids will choose their own name for a grandparent. DS calls my MIL regular grandma. Don't know where he came up with that!

My grandmother was Big Nana. My husband's grandmother was Gigi, we just lost Gigi last week. Whatever you decide, what a blessing to have this special person for your child! My son has some memories of Big Nana but was quite close to Gigi. It's really special.

I think I introduced my grandmother on my moms side as Mum to DH when he first met her. It didn't cross my mind to use her real name, thats what her children and grand children all called her.

It's a different problem, but right now all the grandparents are grandpa first name and grandma first name. It's confusing DS. I need to figure out how to diversify.

We asked our parents what they wanted to be called and it did not go well....

thanks everyone!

To clarify, DD has a Nana, Nanny, and Obuela (Spanish for grandmother.), a Poppy and a Grandpa. She also has a Great-Nanny, and a Gigi.

I think the "Nana First Name" might work, not sure why I didn't think of that!

I appreciate all the input. Its a blessing for her to have all these great-grandparents. (she also has a great-grandpa) I just lost my other grandmother two weeks ago, and one of the last things she did was to thank me for making her a great-grandmother. She was DD's Great-Grammy.

My MIL is German, so my husband always called her mother Oma. Now my MIL is Oma, and her mother (when she was still alive) was Uroma which is the German term for great-grandmother.

My dd is less than a month but I imagine struggling with this in the future! She currently has 3 grandmas- my mom wants to go by Granny, but my mil and smil have the same last name! 4 grandpas, no one has said any name preference yet. 2 great grandmas on my side, who I've so far just referred to as grandma because that's what I'm used to calling them. I'm following to see suggestions!

Are you supposed to ask what people would prefer or do you assume and then they correct you? I have no clue!

We just said "Great Nana"

Ours was a little bit more confusing because my grandfather was Jaja and my dad wanted to also be a Jaja. However, my grandmother was Bushi and my mom didn't want to be a Bushi, she is GiGi. So the kids refer to the greats as "Great Jaja" and "Great Bushi" even though there isn't a younger Bushi Jr.
