My LO is 6 months old and has been waking up early in the morning too (read 4:30 AM to 5:30 AM). It sucks! I'm hoping it's a phase and he will resume waking up after 6:30 AM again soon.

Hey Everyone, for some reason I missed your responses! I wasn't trying to ignore them!

@babyboecksmom, we thought then that he could be teething since it was a rough time, but nothing ever came through and he has been much happier the past two weeks. Maybe it was the beginning stages of teeth coming in?

@coco bee, I always thought 4 naps was crazy too! But, when we would try to move bedtime earlier, he would wake up around 9 or 10 wanting to play and be up for awhile. He is definitely in a better 3 nap schedule these days, and he has fixed his night wakings and is back to STTN. Sometimes he will wake up, but usually talks himself back to sleep. Some nights he is out by 7:30 now and does fine. He was and sometimes still just takes cat naps and I think that is why he takes so many naps. We dealt with swaddle weaning and it seems like the only way he takes good long naps is with still being swaddled, but will sleep unswaddled at night. Now he seems to only take 4 naps on the two days I work a week, he only takes cat naps at my moms and usually takes his fourth cat nap at 4:30. Craziness!

@mrsbells I am realizing that the sleep regressions are normal. It just can be frustrating after days and weeks of great sleep!

My baby also slept through the night for a over a month and then randomly started waking up each night about the same time, maybe because she was hungrier? But then she randomly started sleeping through the night again.
I think its normal to have regressions in sleep patterns

4 naps?!! Goodness... that may be the problem. Maybe he is sleeping SO much during the day that he doesn't feel he needs that sleep at night.

DS is 6.5 months and for a couple months now has been taking two naps a day. The ONLY time he takes a third nap is if his first nap is messed up (like, if I have to leave and wake him up).

He takes two naps, the first is 1.5 hours long and the second is usually 1.5-2.5 hours long. He goes to bed at 7pm, sleeps anywhere from 6-8ish hours, eats, then gets up around 6:45-7am.

Maybe he's also going to bed too late? We've experimented with bedtimes here and there and DS seems to do best with a 7pm bedtime.

Oh! and what pp said about teething... DS had a bad pocket of sleep for a week where his sleep was messed up. He was waking 2-4x a night.

Seems like it's something in the air - I was just talking about my LO. She's 7.5 months but she started doing the same thing around that time.

Do you think your LO could be teething? Or do you think there are some milestones that he just learned that might be affecting his sleep?

It's so hard and I'm right there with you. I'm starting to give up on ever getting to sleep through the night!

@creativemomma15: For a while DS was getting up at like 4 and not wanting to go back to sleep. In order to get him to sleep longer, we resorted to putting him in his bouncy chair with the vibrations on next to the running shower. Obviously not ideal, and I was glad when he grew out of that stage!

Now, I have no idea what's going on. He obviously CAN put himself to sleep, and he only needs to eat once a night, so what gives? It's so mystifying!

I feel at a loss with it sometimes. I think it makes it harder because he was going so well and now it's like we are just moving backwards. I stress more about the early wake up because for one I am exhausted and two his previous wake up time worked perfectly with the days I work and his eating schedule. If he wakes earlier, I need to have an extra bottle for him and it makes it harder with pumping. Ugh, just when you think you have it figured out they change it up!

I hope your DS gets back to his routine soon! Maybe it is the age? I know we already did the 4m sleep regression... who knows!?!

I have no idea; I just wanted to commiserate. DS was putting himself to sleep and only waking up once a night to eat. I'd feed him at around 3-4, put him back into his crib, and he'd immediately fall back asleep. Now, the last three days I've had to rock him to sleep and he's getting up 2-3 times a night. WTF?!

Also, my DS is almost the same age as your son (he's 5.5 months), so maybe it's just the age? I feel like we already went through the 4 months sleep regression, though...

My son will turn 6m on Saturday (but was born 1m early) Up until the past month we have had our ups and downs with sleeping then about 3 weeks ago he started truly STTN without me needing to give him his pacifier during the night anymore. He did this for 2 weeks and now we are back to him waking up 2-3 times a night for me to give him his pacifier and he is waking up 1 hour early than he used to. I usually nurse him last at 7:30 and then he is out by 8 (putting himself to sleep) and he was sleeping until about 6:30. Now he is waking in the middle of the night again and waking up at 5:30 sometimes 5! He still takes sometimes 4 naps during the day and gets sleepy about 1 1/2 - 2 hours after he wakes most times and then will nap anywhere from 45 min to 2 hours. It isn't consistent. At this point, I don't know what to do! I feel like he isn't getting enough nighttime sleep with this new habit and I am tired. I would love to establish more of a nap schedule, but he is all over the place during the day.

Any advice is welcome, I just don't know what to do about it!
