I used Baby Buddy's Baby's 1st Toothbrush on my oldest when he started having teeth. He did cut his first tooth at 11 months so he was more willing to "brush." But I did start out letting him chomp on these to get used to bristles.

@mrbee: I like this one. :)

We just got our son this today:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10881230&CAWELAID=688496092
(he's teething, or just has sore gums, but no teeth yet). And in my complete lack of experience, it seems like it would help.

We use the finger brush. DS only has two teeth but he opens his mouth and we say, "aaahhh". He thinks it's funny!

We also started with the finger brush. She loved it, but switched over when she started biting. Now she usually puts her tongue in the way so I'm always brushing her tongue instead of her teeth.

there are dental wipes you can buy too if the finger brush doesn't work out. she only has four teeth so not that much brushing to do!

We started off with a finger brush. Then moved onto a toddler toothbrush when she was 14-15 months old.
She loves the flavor of the toothpaste and so far we haven't had any problems!

I don't think my LO really got the hang of it until closer to two years old. But now she's a pro!

We made a big deal out of how much fun we were having brushing our own teeth... in time at all, he was begging us to let him brush his own teeth!

It's normal. You can get a little rubbery brush that you wear on your finger that might make it a little easier for you to pry her mouth open and get in there. We just started using a "real" brush on LO and I'm lucky to get a couple swipers per row before he yanks it out of my hand and starts sucking/chewing it.

So, LO is 1 year old and tonight was the first night we attempted toothbrushing (LO has 4 teeth). She refused to open her mouth! I think I ended up brushing her lips! LOL! I managed to get in 1-2 quick skims along her teeth but she downright clamped her mouth shut.

I suppose this is somewhat normal? How do you deal"?
