@namaste: It's a business that kind of just took off from my husbands business. I might be able to get more work but I won't be getting less work that's for sure.

@Mama Bird: Yes those dreaded day care germs although it may be better now, than once they are in school, maybe?

@JennyD: See, that is my concern as well. I feel like I have the ability to stay home as much as possible so give that up.

@NurseMommy: My husband thinks it would be good for me to go back to work part time just to associate with some adults again. But he is completely supportive of whatever decision I make.

@Mrs. Pen: I think it's about 200 bucks/month more to go from part time to full time. I haven't completely crunched the numbers. I still want to be home with the kids as much as possible but having one to two days a week to get some work done would be amazing.

I'm not sure what the daycares there are like, but I know that at ours, it's a $5/day difference to go from 4 days in daycare to 5 days in daycare... The bulk of the weekly cost is in three days. If that makes sense? So would it be possible to take the PT job and still have 1-2 days at home while the kids are in daycare? Or would that cost significantly more?

Personally, I'd go for the second option, but that's me. Obviously you have to do what's right for you and your family. What does your husband say?

I work full time outside of the home but since it's shift work I still get to be home 3-4 days/week, which for me is a nice balance between feeding my intellectual stimulation needs and quality time with my family.

ETA: I've noticed huge strides in DD's development since starting daycare, but she's also been sick with at least a runny nose since starting six weeks ago.

I feel your pain!

I think a middle road is nice. That said, your smallest is still quite small, so maybe delay daycare until he's bigger?

I WOH full time. I have been feeling like I've been missing out and I wish I could work less.

Wow, that's a tough decision! It's great that you found a day care that can take both kids. Having them there part time while you work part time seems like a perfect middle ground. You could probably move up to full time when your youngest is closer to one, if you all feel ready for that. Just from personal experience, I was a WAHM until my baby turned one, put him in day care full time, and he is pretty happy there... Of course, he was sick so much the first few months that I was really in the office only part time and working from home to make up the rest. So you've got to consider that they'll need time to adjust to day care germs too!

How well is your business doing? I worked full time and ran my business part time for years but that was without children. It paid off for me to dedicate more time for my business and go part time so I would say option 2. Everyone's different! Sometimes it's hard to go back to a work environment after working for yourself, regardless of the pay. Owning a business just offers a certain type of flexibility.

So sorry you're stressed about this. I know it's a big cha he and congrats on finding a daycare that can accommodate your needs.

I need your help to make a decision.

So a little backstory, before I had LO#1, I worked pretty much full time out of the house. Technically I worked casually at two different places which both gave me close to full time hours. After I had LO1, I found out my one position was becoming full time and someone with more seniority scooped it up so I was left casual with no guaranteed hours.

I created my own business (not related at all to my bachelors degree) and have been doing some work with that. As of right now that's bringing in a little bit of money but also requires working, obviously. And with kids getting older and more demanding, it's getting really tough to parent and work at the same time. DH works full time out of the house with average pay.

So, my predicament. I recently applied for a job that is full time, related to my degree, not the greatest pay but still ok and they said they are willing to let me start off part time. They are really eager for me to work there and are even trying to find me daycare. So having a 2 year old AND a 5 month old is virtually impossible to find daycare (most do not take children less than 1 year old). Well, yesterday we found a daycare who can accommodate my children, our work hours and everything we need. The cost is decent. Everything looks great.

The problem? I do not want to work away from home BUT I would like to:

a) make more money for our household
b) get my children to interact more with other children
c) just get a break to do my own work at home

So my options are this

1. Work full time, put kids in daycare full time. (Have zero time for my at home business).
2. Work away from home part time (2-3 days/wk). Still look after my kids some, and might have time to do at home business.
3. Put kids in daycare casually (1 day/wk) to focus on at home business, which gives me a break but also gives kids some interaction. But would likely cost our house more $$ unless I can scrounge up more work with my business.

I want to make money as a career woman, but I also want to be a SAHM. Raising my kids is SO important to me but I do see the benefits for them and me to get them/me out of the house. I hope this is clear! It's all such a great opportunity but I HATE making decisions.
