@Mrs. Taco: I'm currently giving him a 50/50 mix of breastmilk (from my freezer stash) and hemp milk!

Hemp was the only kind of alternative milk I could find that had a decent amount of fat, which was important to my pediatrician.

@Mrs. Taco: Thank you!! I think he IS feeling better because he was willing to nurse this morning and then had drank some milk and was playing, so I think he's feeling better. But I'll have to see how the rest of the day goes, because yesterday he nursed and had some milk in the morning too but then wouldn't drink anything for the rest of the day!

@locavore_mama: Good idea about trying to put it in something different - I'll give that a try!

@littlecasita1122: I actually tried letting him drink out of a regular cup, but he saw what was in it and wasn't interested! Gahh!!

@Applesandbananas: We do have mesh feeders. I'll have to see if I can find them. And I actually thought about giving him a bottle, because he's always drank well from a bottle, but we've been bottle free for two months, so I didn't want to regress!

I actually tried mixing some pedialyte into his breakfast food this morning and he didn't seem to notice, so I was able to get him to "drink" 2.5 oz of it! It's not a lot, but definitely an improvement over yesterday!

Could you put the pedialyte/Gatorade in a bottle? I can't remember if you said your LO still took bottles, but we usually have better luck with bottles than sippy cups when lo is sick.

Do you have any mesh feeders? Could you make pedialyte ice cubes and put them in a mesh feeder? Or hemp milk cubes?

Could you try offering something during bathtime? Like a sippy of pedialyte/Gatorade? For whatever reason, LO is more receptive during a bath when we had a nursing strike. Maybe the same theory could apply here with the pedialyte?

What about a dream feed?

I'm not a mom (yet), but my friend made her own pedialyte popsicles when her LO was sick. You can use an ice cube tray and sticks or get a cheap mold at Target or Walmart. Good luck!

Popsicles or smoothies are the only things that work for us. Or sometimes making it a big deal by letting him sip from one of our cups without a cover on it and letting him drink like a "big boy".

What about watered down juice? A different vessel? My LO will almost always drink out of a glass or a water bottle.

Ice cubes?

@Adira: my lo hates pedialyte but will drink Gatorade. We usually give it to him in a sippy cup (he doesn't usually get sippys) to make it special.

Have you tried a smoothie?

@Anagram: Interesting! I'm not even sure Xander will eat a popsicle, but I guess it's worth trying!! I'll have to buy some when I go shopping tomorrow.

@Silva: Actually, yes!!! Xander's pretty good about taking medicine, so I put some milk in the medicine dropper and tried to give it to him, but he was having none of it!

have you tired a medicine dropper? when my daughter was constipated it was the only way I could get her to take prune juice. Might be worth a try? Also, I second the vote for Popsicles.

@Adira: I recently had a 24 oz period where my 9 month old only drank about 6 oz of BM in a 24 hr period and refused all solids. She wouldn't take pedialyte or anything else. My doctor suggested a regular sugary Popsicle ( yup. I was surprised, too) or chocolate pudding! When I asked about the sugar, she said it can be good when kids aren't ingesting anything else, and that in the hospital they give sugar water.

Anyway, it sounded crazy to me but I let LO gnaw on a Popsicle and we made it through the night. The next day she was slightly better and the day after back to normal.

Xander is sick and we've been to the doctor's a million times, but one of the things they kept stressing was the importance of keeping him hydrated. But he just won't drink anything! We've tried milk, water, pedialyte, and he just refuses to have any of it! I know he must be getting dehydrated, but I don't know what to do!

I've been trying to feed him watery purees (apples, pears) to offset how little he's drinking, but I'm not sure what else to do. Suggestions??
