It's worth noting that with our group, no one is obligated to host anything at all, it's all on a volunteer basis. We have a Facebook group to organize events and people rsvp to whatever they can attend.

Our mom's group is really big so these ideas are probably not perfect for you but here's what we do. Also we all pay dues ($45 a year) and things like coffee and bagels and art supplies come out of that budget.

Once a month we do a coffee club, someone hosts and gets bagels and coffee for the moms. During the summer it's held at a local fenced in park, it's at someone's house in the colder months. We have a monthly potluck playdate at someone's house from 4-6 pm and everyone brings a dinner dish. We also do brunch bunch once a month at someone's house. We have two kids day out activities, we meet up at various fun places in the area. We do an art date once a month, it's either at someone's house or the park and the hostess sets up a project for all of the kids. We do a mom's night out, have night and a book club monthly too.

We mostly have playdates at various places -- in the summer they tend to be at parks or local beaches/wading pools, with backup options of coffee shops or one of the libraries/museum in case of rain or super hot weather. In the winter, we tend there are a ton of indoor play place options that we circulate through.

We rarely do people's houses -- maybe once/month or sometimes as a backup location. That way no one has to prep, you only worry about your kids in terms of snacks/etc, and everyone gets out of their house. But I know that some places don't have great public meeting options, or at least not very many.

I have been part of a playgroup that rotated hosting and snack duty. I, personally, didn't like that because it was stressful to me to worry about whether I had appropriate/enough toys, snacks, seating, coffee, etc.

My current one also does some MNO things, including dessert & drinks, and a book/podcast club. But mostly we focus on stuff during the day when everyone is SAH.

I organize a mom's group with a few other SAHM's and their kids. We meet with our children 2-4 times a month, and once a month, without.

I try to research free, local events a week in advance and put it out to the group. During the summer, our library hosts fun events like magic shows, puppet theater, children's concerts, performances by local dance troops, and dog talent shows. Those have been fantastic. Other times, we'll just meet for a library storytime, and then hit up a casual bakery, afterward. Lots of fire stations will offer free tours when you book with a group - we've done that before and the kids loved it. We also have a toddler campus that offers drop-in classes, so we'll sometimes do that. It's worth it to compare season passes, with the group. Most of us have passes to our local aquarium (and have guest passes for those, without), so that's a frequent stop, too.

We live by the ocean, so the weather is usually pretty decent. Because of that, we do a lot of park picnics, beach meetups, and easy hikes, too. With fall approaching, consider apple picking, pumpkin patches, hay rides, etc.

I admin a FB mom's group in our area and we try to plan meet ups once a month at least. when our kids were little we would do everything from meeting at coffee shops, hikes (we still do this), play cafes (we have several of these indoor play areas), and a fair number of play dates hosted at people's houses where we had snacks and someone planned an easy craft (usually involving footprints because they are easy!). We also try to plan a mom's night every month or two, which is fun!

A local group I know takes turns hosting. Each person takes a week--they're in charge of snacks and location--hosting in their own home or at a local kid-friendly place. I like that because it spreads out the responsibility.

I'm thinking of starting a mom's group with some other SAHM's in my area I've casually met through swim class, gymnastics class, etc. I just dont know what we should DO as a moms group. My dd is 18 months old and most of the other babies are around that age as well.

There are the obvious location based ones like the zoo or childrens museum, which i think is good occasionally but not for a weekly or every other week meet up.

Going to the park could work but where i live it is SOOOO hot and humid right now that it's hard to be outside for more than 30 min.

I'm also a little hesitant to host at my house because i dont really know the people yet, but thats something i could do later as i get to know them better.

What else is there to do in a moms group?
