@BabyBoecksMom: Oh my word, the wiping! I'm so tired of saying, "Mommy gets to wipe her own booty."

@BabyBoecksMom: I'm with @autumnlove: I don't think she sounds ready, and I've been betting that DD will regress when the baby comes anyhow so there is no point to starting then going backwards.

For my son, the key was setting the whole thing up so that he could do it all himself. He wasn't interested in a standalone potty, so we bought a toilet seat that has an integrated smaller seat for kids (it pops off when you don't want it any more) and a Little Looster, which is like a step that goes around the base of the toilet.

@Weagle: She won't let me go potty without her! She always wants to try to wipe me.... So she's very familiar with it, but she doesn't want to do anything about it.

Do you let her watch you potty? LO got the idea after watching me, and she REALLY got into it after seeing her older cousin potty. Granted, LO still isn't potty trained, but it helped her overcome her fear of just sitting on it.

Wait and take a slow was what my aunt who is a nurse and my fiend who is a preschool teacher said. She old me that a lot of kids prone to anxiety have issues if you push too hard. They can become constipated and have poor associations. Nothing wrong with encouragement and making it fun but she said 3 or 4 was more realistic that younger if they are not showing signs of beig into it.

Just keep offering

I never did any kind of training with DS - he was in diapers and would pee here and there on the potty and then his teacher said lets try underwear - we did and that was that!

With DD I was anxious and tried everything I could to get her PT"d and boy did she push back. I finally gave in and just let her do what she wanted - pee on the potty or in her diaper. Then out of the blue her teacher told me thinks she is ready for underwear - I thought she was *&!%* nuts but gave it a go and BAM! She is trained!

If your DD is hesitant it may be best to let her go at her own pace!

Hmmm, I think I would just wait and hope she shows more interest later! She also might regress when her sister arrives? But I am obviously no pro since my 2 year old is still in diapers! :)

I bought an Elmo DVD and book and I will introduce it when we start potty training.

DD is always hesitant to try something new. She usually needs us to gently persuade her (aka force her) to do something. She'll cry and kick and scream until she realizes it's really not that bad.

We want to potty train her (she's 2 now), but I don't think forcing her will work. She comes to us and lets us know when she pees and poops, but she won't go anywhere near the potty. We have tried to be relaxed about having her sit on it, but she doesn't want anything to do with it.

Any ideas on how I can get her to be more comfortable with the potty? FWIW, we have a potty seat for the big toilet and a little potty as well.
