My friend returns the gifts she got as gifts and holds onto the gift cards for other uses. This should work when they are little, they will play with toys for along time and those toys will cost more $ as they get older.

It doesn't sound like you have the room to spare so I would say sell or donate.

i give them to friends. i even gave away a ton of toys olive could have played with after charlie outgrew them. i realize now that they need very few toys to be entertained, and olive has charlie! :)

Some friends of mine who are sisters used to trade toys every few months. They'd have storage bins in their living rooms and they'd just haul them over to eachother's houses to trade. It worked well because most of the time their kids forgot about the toys they hadn't seen for a while so it was like getting all new toys!

We keep unopened ones aside to open on rainy days (literally!) and rotate toys between the playroom and basement play space. Any toys that he doesn't seem to have interest in (or are missing pieces, etc as hand me downs) we donate to either the salvation army or our church, depending on the condition it's in.

Could you get some baskets or storage ottomans? I like the suggestion of rotating them, especially if you want to keep them for future kiddos.

I would give them to friends/family or donate them. Any future babies will be showered with presents too. I just don't see the point of having something take up precious space in my house when it isn't being used. I'd much rather it go to someone who will use it.

We pass them along to others. We too have received so many great gifts and hand me downs that I like to pay it forward as much as possible.

LO just celebrated his first birthday. We've gotten so many wonderful gift items, new toys included. From the beginning, I was determined that I wouldn't get any and every toy for LO. I'm in the camp of "less toys, more interaction" and "anything can be a toy - even a spatula"

We've had many generous people supply us with toys their growing LO's won't use anymore. Everything has been in great condition and our LO has a fun time playing with everything. But with the growing number of toys and our limited square footage, what do we do with the toys he no longer plays with? Give them away, donate, save for later, live with it? We already have a storage space that is packed to the brim with other baby items we aren't using anymore (but may use with a 2nd baby)

How do you handle your growing amount of toys?
