I think I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel with this (I think, I'm not getting too hopeful yet). She's been pretty consistent about 11:30 being her time to go to sleep but Sunday night she went to sleep at 10:45 and last night was 10:30. We're probably going to try for 10 tonight but we won't push our luck since she still nurses to sleep so it's really her call. She was rubbing her eyes and looking tired at 9 last night though (we tried to get her in bed but we weren't prepared for that so her short bedtime routine woke her up).

She's 8 weeks tomorrow so hopefully this only gets better, although I'm moving her to the pack n play sometime this week from her co-sleeper so hopefully that doesn't mess up the bedtime progress or the fact that she almost consistently does a six hour stretch.

My baby was like that too, and now at 11 weeks old she is really tired around 7.30pm.

@Mrs. Cat in the Cradle: our baby was the same as you described as well when he was 1-2 months. We gradually began putting him down earlier and earlier -- sometimes he would regress a bit, but generally we've got him in the crib by 9:30 now... (at a bit over 3 months old). hope it works for you!! :)

We didn't even try a routine until 10 weeks. She was up until 10:30 or 11 which meant we were up until then. We just put her down after the late feeding. She slowly showed signs of wanting to go to bed earlier. Now we have it so we start her routine at 7pm. She falls asleep around 8 but wakes up a half hour later. We try to get her back down by 9. Tonight she wouldn't fall asleep so I nursed her at 9:30. Now she is sleeping.... hopefully for good.

We decided to start her bedtime routine since I was going back to work soon and needed to. 10 weeks seemed to work well for her. Now at 12 weeks, she seems to "get" it.

Hmm... Lil Miss Wagon's sleep has been getting better and better for the past few days (hopefully exiting the 6 week fussiness peak??). We made two changes, too: we let her sleep in the rock n play (if not the swing, during the day) and she gets a lot more bottles since I'm working and pumping, and I think she gets a lot more hindmilk in pumped bottles. We were prepared for another awake period tonight around dinnertime, but she was super fussy about an hour after her 5pm bottle, so I nursed her and she had about half a nursing session's worth, then Wagon Sr. rocked her for a bit and she fell asleep. So we left her in the rock n play in the living room while we ate dinner, then put the rock n play in the bedroom and she's still sleeping now at 10pm!! Hopefully she now understands bedtime..?!?!?!?

My pediatrician said to try and inch it back incrementally - 10 or 15 minutes earlier each night, and start waking her up a little earlier as well. I'll let you know if we have any success!

Lil miss wagon is the same exact way. One night I spent 5 hrs putting her to bed. Whenever she would fall asleep, I'd put her down and 30 min later shed be wide awake. I think I'm gonna stop fighting it and just accept that her bedtime is 9-10pm for now and adjust to 630 later. Somehow.

@stargal: She will wake up around 4-5 for a feeding, and then back down until around 9. She slept until 10 once. So she is averaging around 9 hours. I'm also trying to make sure she falls asleep in her crib, but she tends to trick me at night and fall asleep very quickly in my arms.

My 10 week old DD is the same and I am freaking out about it because I go back to work in two weeks. I feel bad complaining at all because she goes down between 11 and 12 every night and sleeps 7-9 hours straight, but once I"m working and have to get up at 5:30 every day I'm going to be dying, and she'll have to get up earlier too to get to daycare. I'm going to ask my pediatrician about it at her appt this afternoon, I"ll report back if they have any suggestions!

my boy is the same exact way, he's 8 weeks and such a night owl. i put him in bed yesterday at ten and i check at almost 11 and he is happily cooing and strecthing in his crib....sigh. he will just entertain himself until the late hours. what time do your babies sleep in til in the morning? mine will usually sleep 12 hours (with a couple wake ups in between) so we sleep in late like noon late. ya my baby is a bum.

@Mrs. Cat in the Cradle: Oh yeah, I totally get it. That's why I'm asking again at her next appointment. I don't like at all that she's not going to sleep until 11:30 and wish she would be asleep by 8 but no matter what I try, she wants to be awake (or at least nursing) until 11-11:30. I got her to sleep at 10:50 the other night and I was so excited.

@mandb36: She is 6 weeks on Saturday, and I also was told a similar thing by her doctor. But of course, I live in fear of having a 6 month old that won't sleep until 11!

My LO is the same way. Even if she seems asleep at 10, she wakes back up a few minutes later and is up until 11-11:30 but sleeps great after that. I asked the pediatrician about it when she was five weeks old. She told me it's completely normal for her age and she isn't worried about an earlier bedtime/set schedule yet. I plan to ask when to start at her next appointment though when she'll be around ten weeks.

Edit: She's seven weeks right now.

LO wants nothing to do with sleep before 10:30-11:30 at night. I've been using a routine that I start at 8:30, and she just won't accept going down earlier.

Would you keep at the early time, even with 3 straight hours of comfort/crib/wake/comfort/crib/wake? Or would you do the routine later, then once well established start bumping up bedtime?

Once she is down, she wakes for one feeding. She's a good sleeper, but her timing is way off.
