@HappyBaker: I think I took my first daughter when she was around 10 months old. The first visit was just Q and A basically. The pediatric GI doctor we went to came highly recommended from my local moms group, but the first visit was really unimpressive. He asked what the issues were (feeding aversion), asked what we’d been doing up to that point, said we should also schedule an appointment with an allergist and a feeding therapy clinic before doing anything drastic like a scope on a baby, and then gave me some generic handouts that said we should scale back on all foods (even the ones she’d been exposed to and had no issues with) and start with just rice cereal for 2-4 weeks, then introduce another cereal for 2-4 weeks, and so on and keep a food diary.

Our kiddo wasn’t taking a bottle awake AND wasn’t actually eating solids, but we would get them in her mouth with no reaction/issues, she just wouldn’t swallow them in any form—purée, finger food, biscuit—she just wouldn’t eat it.

Honestly, I left that appointment feeling like I missed a day of work for nothing since he basically referred me other places and had s very old school approach. I think the old school menu he gave us was to see if she had FPIES instead of just MSPI, but I was hoping for a best, quick solution and basically I got a 4 month menu plan and a referral to other specialists.

Luckily—my girl finally grew out of all her problems at exactly 13 months. It was like a switch just flipped nd she understood eating and finally wanted to do it. I specifically remember the week of her 1 yr birthday, she barely drank any milk and only ate those little pre-made packages of mandarin orange pieces. For an entire week. And I was so stressed.

And then 2 weeks later she was suddenly finishing an entire salmon fillet with a side of rice and broccoli. She just like—skipped over teething biscuits and purées and dove right into softer adult foods. By 14 months she was like a new kid, eating 3 meals a day, having snacks, eating while awake. So we ended up never doing the food journals/feeding clinic/allergist.

Our ped has referred us to a GI / feeding clinic to get the ball rolling on figuring out why our 8 month old just WILL NOT eat solids. Has anyone been down this path and can tell me what to expect? We are basically starting from zero to figure out if his issues are just sensory or if there is some physical reason why eating is so hard for him. If anyone has any tips or advice I'd much appreciate them!
