@ShootingStar: Metformin in the am and pm with dinner. Glyburide with dinner. I had my first "good" reading this morning....89. I've been so stressed about my fasting number so I am relieved.

My appointment went really well. The Dr. talked to me for 30 minutes about my risks (2 prior c-sections, large babies even when I don't have GD, multiple pregnancies in last 4 years, past hemorrhage) and gave me lots of advice on how to manage my current case of GD. He changed up my meds that a nurse practitioner prescribed a few weeks ago , gave me diet advice and did an ultrasound. My LO is a thumb sucker! :-) I will see the Dr again in a few weeks.

I'm guessing for the GD....I met with one before my CVS and it was just like a regular OB appt, basically, but they talked more about my "problems" and what it could mean.

I saw a perinatologist for my GD...it was basically a 5 minute appointment to go over ultrasounds and general pregnancy things.

I was 35 with GD and didn't have to see a perinatologist. Maybe since you were diagnosed early? Or maybe it's just standard for your practice? I had weekly ultrasounds starting at around 32 weeks which I know others with GD didn't have to do. I guess it just depends?

@BandDmommy: Nah, the appointment just showed up on my list after I failed my one hour glucose. I had this appointment scheduled even before I had my 1st regular OB app two weeks ago..

@twodoghouse: Thanks for the info! :)

I'm not sure if it varies based on why you're referred, but I didn't have any issues, just a twin pregnancy. Every time I went I got a long ultrasound (1-2 hrs usually, 3 hrs for anatomy scan, but there were 2 babies to measure!). Then the perinatologist would come in and talk about how I was feeling, how they were looking, precautions to take, etc. He would also do another ultrasound (sometimes both Tv and abdominal) to look at anything he wanted to check out. We'd go over basic things like weight gain, diet, how I was feeling, blood pressure, etc. just like at the regular OB.

Eta: my perinatologist's equipment was a lot better than the US machines at my OB so the pics I got were better, they usually switched to 3D each time, and they could tell the sex of the babies pretty early (16 weeks).

I have an appointment tomorrow with a perinatologist. I'm not exactly sure why I have this appointment...maybe because I am 35 and/or because I have GD?

Do they usually do an ultrasound?
