M did really well on her first road trip!!!
On the way there she was in and out of sleep. Only cried towards the end because she had a poopy diaper. She slept the whole way home!!!
She was really well behaved the whole day too. No shrieking at the restaurant. She did great for her first restaurant experience!! And mommy & daddy got to have dim sum. We went to a Japanese buffet for dinner and I had sushi to my hearts content!!

So proud of our little "international" traveler!

My mom's staying the week so I'm riding solo this week...eek!

Thanks everyone!
I'll add extra diapers and outfits. I can always leave the extra diapers in the car.
Good call on the plastic bags. No playpen necessary since we're bringing her sleeper. No carrier yet unfortunately.

She's on a bit of a daytime nursing strike so I can't depend on being able to bf. speaking of which I'll throw my pump on the list just in case. Got premixed already but will bring dry too.

@cvbee: I'm 2hrs southeast! Good call on change of clothes for me! The other day she had a major spit up and I needed to change.

Whoa! Real life connection: we are both 2 hours from Toronto! (I'm north of it).

I think your list looks great.

I don't pack much when I go out for just a day trip, so from your list I wouldn't pack:
-any bottle/feeding things....I would just breastfeed and take that into account for travel time that we might need to pull over, but generally I just feed the baby before we leave and it's all good for a 2 hour trip (unless I wanted a glass of wine...then I'd for sure bring a bottle of pumped just in case LO gets hungry before the 2 hour window is up).
-video monitor? that's just crazy imo!

But in addition I would pack:
-extra nursing pads (I'm a leaker, but maybe you're not)
-change of clothes for me (you never know!)
-more extra clothes for baby (they are just tiny anyways!)
-wrap carrier
-sun cover for carrier (or whatever you need to provide baby with sun protection......oh, definitely sun hat)
-mosquito net cover for carrier (are there bugs in toronto? it's bug season 2 hours north for sure!)
-sweater and hat for baby in case it is windy/randomly cold....the weather is really swingy these days

Have a great trip! We're doing an overnight trip this weekend so I am totally with you on the packing-thinking.

Oh, and you probably know this, and it sounds like you are going with DH, but for the future if you are ever going to cross the border with LO without DH you need some kind of letter saying that DH gives you permission to do this.....I think you need a lawyer to oversee this....I've never done it, but I've seen my aunt hand over letters like that at the border).

I think you need more diapers (just in case) and at least one more full outfit. I don't think the video monitor is necessary unless the room she would be napping in is really far from where you would be while she's asleep.

Like @MrsBells I suggest getting the premixed liquid formulas; much easier than dealing with having to mix powder and water in a moving vehicle. Although I BF, we always made sure to travel with a couple of these on hand just in case.

My rule of thumb for travel is to calculate one diaper per hour, then double the amount. I pack them into two "pods" both with wipes and diaper cream. For clothing, I also pack two extra travel outfits, I learned the hard way after DS had a leaky diaper on a recent flight. I only had one pair of pants and he spilled water on the pair he was wearing and peed through the change.

Being in the car is more difficult for us than air travel, because I can't/won't take the baby out of the seat while the car is moving, which I will do if the fasten seat belts sign is turned off. That means calculating extra time for stops, so I usually also double the suggested travel time and plan accordingly.

Best of luck!

I would take more than one extra outfit because my LO is messy and then I would buy the enfamil liquid formula, its a premixed liquid and you dont have to keep it cool, its so convenient for when we are on the road. and then I would also bring some burp cloths

Diaper changing pad for on the road diaper changes

Next weekend we'll be taking our first big day trip with our newborn! She'll be exactly 5 weeks! I'm a little askeered!

We'll be driving about 2hrs (hopefully no traffic!) to Toronto to visit my aunts with my mom. We'll likely be there all day, leave in the morning and drive back after dinner. Hopefully she naps the whole time so we don't have to stop! If the car's moving she's fine. It'll be a practice run for the 6hr trip to NYC in July.

What should I pack? Here's my list:
Cooler bag for pre-mixed formula and/or breast milk for the car ride
formula
water
video monitor?
1 extra outfit + 1 sleep n play to change for the ride home
diapers! I'm planning on bringing 12 diapers hahah
wash clothes for diaper changes at my aunt's house
wipes for on the road
diaper rash cream
3 bibs
birth certificate for border crossing
her sleeper for naps
blankets
gas drops (she's uber gassy)
pacifier (we don't use one but in case she gets really fussy in the car and nothing else works)

Anything else??
