Use a good food catcher bib too. I found that this REALLY helps keep the mess off of the floor.

What about those clear plastic mats that go under an office rolling chair?

I'd get a roll of sticky-backed carpet protector from Lowe's or Home Depot -- that way, you can cut it to size. Then get rid of it when it gets ragged or too messy, and stick down a new piece.

The dog ;)

I'd use a plastic table cloth, or oil cloth as suggested above. You can buy oil cloth at Joann Fabrics, and it rinses well with a hose.

My friend with carpet uses an oilcloth sheet which can be wiped down. I think she called it a splat mat but I don't know if that was the actual product name.

Our dining area is carpeted, and this is proving to be quite a pain when it comes to the baby's mealtime. We have a highchair from IKEA, and I love that it is very easy to clean that. The carpet, however, is another story.

What do you use or do to protect your floors from the messes that accompany an enthusiastic little eater? So far, I have been putting down old towels or sheets, but I would love to find a creative solution that does not add to our laundry as much.
