I have been in the child care filed for over a decade and I can assure you that it is not uncommon for the high turn-over rate in this field. The reality is that most teachers in this field do not get paid very well, a lot less than a credentialed teacher's pay. These caregivers leave for many reasons and many times it is not within the director's control at all. I really don't know if the director can do anything about it because I am sure like you, she probably wished that the teachers wouldn't leave and would stay longer.

In the meantime, you can request for the teacher's schedule
and more details on your son's whereabouts throughout the day and let the director know that you would like for your son to stay put in one room.

You might want to think about putting your son in a home daycare if you want a consistent teacher/caregiver or hire a nanny.

Good luck!

I would just ask basic questions like, can you give me a schedule of hours so we know what teachers to discuss nap issues with.

If I were in your shoes, I would ask some questions of whoever is working in the room when you have time at pickup/dropoff. "So, how often do you rotate rooms," etc and basically fish around for any information you can. If you aren't satisfied with the answers, then I would take your concerns to the director. I've found that a lot of things can be better understood if I talk to whoevers working the room first before I go and talk to the director--then sometime that caretaker feels undermined or whatever. Good luck.

Both my husband and I are feeling pretty dissatisfied with our son's daycare in the past month or so. It's really amplified now that he's going 5 days a week, 9 hours a day. Our biggest concern is consistency.

1) Since May, there's been a stream of teachers cycling through the infant rooms (there are two). His primary teacher is the same women who's been with him since he started at 3 months, but I cannot figure out her hours. I never know when she's going to be there (although she recently told me that she's pregnant again after a miscarriage last winter, so I can't begrudge her wanting to take it easy/work less/rest).

2) since they teachers aren't steady, I don't know which room he's in. It really bothers me that he gets moved around so much. They told us he's fighting his afternoon nap and want to move him to 1 nap, but how can they get him to sleep if he doesn't have a routine.

3) I feel like having so many teachers and "floaters" all the time means they don't know my son. How can they know his likes and needs if they aren't there all the time? How many teachers do I have to remind not to pour out his breastmilk if he doesn't eat it?!

My heart is sick over this. I don't know what to say to the director, if anything. I don't think they are mis-treating him, but I don't feel good about the quality of care he's getting. I'm not thrilled about switching centers, because this location is perfect & it's one of the top rated centers in the area.

Should I say something? He'll be moving to the toddlers room in a few months - should we stick it out? I just want to feel like people know and love my son when I'm not with him :(
