If you can swing an iPad or an iPhone you can add to your family plan, I would highly recommend it. My parents cannot do ANYTHING tech related (my mom doesn't know how to check her voicemail, for example), but they can handle Apple products and they regularly Facetime our boys. My dad has a score of health issues and never gets to see my kids and its like their favorite thing to do.

The only thing is initial set-up. My brother lives local and was able to go over and get all of that set up, but if someone local can't do it for them, I would have the iPad sent to you first, get it all set up for them with numbers and contacts and what not and then mail it to them once all the registration and set-up stuff is done. If they need to link it to their Wi-Fi, I would send a document that walks them through exactly how they should do that.

Do you facetime with them and the LOs?

My sisters and I got my grandma a tablet and set it up with her wifi so we could facetime her...she loves it!

Tablets can be cheap these days if you get the right ones without cellular data! You might already do this with them...but was just the first thing that popped into mind. I know our LOs can always cheer their grandpa up...

I feel like this is a pretty standard suggestion but a gift certificate for a restaurant near them that delivers, so they don't have to cook. Or maybe for a cleaning service to come and clean their house so they can focus on other things? I've also seen somebody recommend a digital photo frame that other people can upload photos to wirelessly, so you could keep them supplied with new photos, but I don't remember what it's called so hopefully somebody else will chime in.

My FIL is having some still-unfolding health issues. They were supposed to visit for Mother's Day and dh bday but can't now. So they're sad about that, super scared about health issues, etc. it's been going on a couple weeks but they just told us.

They live across the country from us and are not very internet/app savvy. I want to send them something to help but not sure what. Sounds like FIL has little appetite right now.

Beyond cards what seems appropriate/helpful? I already offered for dh to go there if he wants and he's thinking about it. We're also sending a big photo book for a Mother's Day gift. I'm just not sure what makes sense.

Any thoughts helpful!
