i would probably serve heavy apps or lunch stuff or make it clear on your invite that you aren't serving a meal (something like "join us for snacks and cake"). For DD's birthday at 1 pm last year, I did a CostCo diy sandwich platter with sliced meat/ cheese/ lettuce, popcorn, fruit and veggies. We served some grown up cider and beer for people that wanted it.

I would serve
Appetizer type food:
Swedish Meatballs
Cheese/fruit/crackers
Mini sandwiches
(gold fish/kids snack)
Chips/dip

If we had it at our home fro 1-3 and mostly family
I think DH for sure might buy some beer and maybe have some Sangria?

We served alcohol at all of our daughter's parties so far - ages 1, 3 and 4. I would do lunch and cake at that time.

We had LO's 2nd birthday party this year starting at 3pm. I served chick-fil-a nuggets, chips and guac, hummus and veggies, crackers and pimento cheese, fruit skewers, cookies, and of course, cake! It was still a more adult-oriented party (mostly family/friends/neighbors, some of whom have kids) so we definitely served alcohol (beer/wine, and mixers for our bar although most stuck with beer/wine).

Yes, beer and wine are a given for us. Not that we drink those things but everyone else does. I also make sangria because I like it and it's always a hit.

For lo's parties, we tend to make a mocktail in a pitcher and then have alcohol on the side for people to mix in themselves if they want it. Like, for lo's last party, I think we had a pear and rosemary spritzer in a pitcher, with vodka next to it.

I think 1 is still lunch time, so I'd probably have a bagel spread (with cream cheese, lox, capers, tomatoes, onion), cheese, fruit, maybe a mediterranean type platter (hummus, pita, grape leaves, tabbouli, veggies, etc), or maybe a pasta salad, and then some sweets.

1-3, I'm thinking finger foods so pizza or chicken fingers/nuggets, chips and dip, fruit tarts, etc.

As for alcohol, we're Asian so it's a given there always will be. lol

If we have it at home we serve beer/wine, if it's at a kid's venue we do not. (we hosted a swimming party for DD1's 4th and no alcohol was served.)

As for food, I would serve appetizers/snackie food for that time frame. Chips/Dip, relish tray, fruit tray, meat and cheese tray.

With the party between 1-3, I agree that you don’t have to serve a full meal. You could do a variety of apps, or pinwheel sandwiches, fruit/veg plate, cheese, etc. You could also do a sandwich spread and people make their own and then have a pasta and green salad available. I think most people will likely have just eaten lunch though, so even just light apps would likely be fine.

I always have beer and wine available when I’m hosting, regardless of the type of party. We also have a stocked bar, but I’ve never had anyone ask for a cocktail at a kid’s party. We always serve champagne with the cake at LO’s parties!

If we have a party it would be either brunch or lunch time. Here's my current lunch time menu:

Kale & broccoli salad
Three pepper pasta salad
"Kabobs" 3 Chick fil A nuggets and/or 3 slow cooker meatballs on a stick (or real kabobs if I have help in the kitchen)
& Something seasonal like a Spring pea crostini

For a crowd I always serve a champagne based punch.

We did a cheese plate and a charcuterie plate (and definitely alcohol - wine and beer - most people had drinks). If the party was closer to lunchtime (like 1-3), I would probably have added a fruit plate and maybe a veggie plate.

If it's at my house I serve alcohol. If it's at a kiddie venue I don't. I keep it simple...pizza, pasta, apps, fruit, veggie plate.

I agree with serving some basic appetizer type foods like cheese and crackers, fruits and veggies, chips and dip, etc. I don't think alcohol is required, but I always have it. DD's birthday is in the summer so we always have beer on hand for anyone that wants it. People don't go crazy, but grab a bottle if they want one. I would say more people choose to drink water or soda though.

when i host my son's parties at my house, i typically have offered wine, at least i intend to, i can't remember if i did for his 3rd. Not everyone drinks of course, but i remember a few people were happy to have a glass. In addition to sweets, i have fruit, and things like cheese, crackers, pita, hummus/dip, and chips. I make sure there are baby/toddler friendly food that is ready to eat.

We are having a birthday party for my almost 1 year old daughter this weekend and I know what sweets I want to serve, I can't decide what other foods to serve. The party will be from 1-3 so I don't think we need to serve a full lunch. What would you like to eat at a party? There will be around 20 people. It is mostly family and 3 couple friends with young children. And do you serve alcohol at kid bday parties? Punch?
