Depending on venue I would choose a nice knee length dress or a cocktail dress (if at a country club or somewhere it is expected to be fancier.) I always wear dresses though, so it would just depend on how much I needed to dress it up.

I agree with Coco Bee, the reception is usually dressier but it depends on where it is and what their invites look like. For instance, is the wording on the invite formal or fun and witty? Is it outdoor or indoor, at a hotel or a park? For the park reception, the key would be the invite wording.

I would wear the same thing I would have worn to the wedding.

Even if it is a casual reception, I would still go for a cute, knee-length dress and heels (and whatever outer layer is appropriate depending on the weather).

The reception is generally the dressier part of the wedding.

When I went to a black tie wedding in NY, the ceremony people wore just dress clothes, then everyone went home, changed into formal wear and then went to the reception.

we have a wedding reception to go to on the 30th and I'm not sure what I should wear? They are having a small ceremony with a big reception therefore we are just attending the reception... What would you wear to the reception if you weren't attending the wedding?
