I usually end up wearing dark skinnies and a fancy blouse with cute flats and more jewelry than normal to baby showers. If lots of little kids are going to be there, I don't think it would be super duper dressy since it's annoying to wear a dress and wrangle a baby!

@ShootingStar: The Common Market? I've actually been to a retirement party there! If I recall correctly, it was a white tablecloth with crystal glasses and cloth napkins kind of party, although I'm not sure what all is included in room rental. Maybe you could get by just buying a skirt instead of trying to find a nursing friendly dress?

Every time I go to a baby shower lately, I am overdressed in a dress! I would say nice jeans and a cute blouse are appropriate! (I'm in Boston too, I've never heard of that place either, but it doesn't look too fancy!)

Dark jeans, dressier top, heels if you're comfortable or cute flats if you're not.

@raspberries: It's a place I never heard of, called the Common Marketplace in Quincy. Looks like they have a restaurant and a few function rooms.

What's the venue? I'd probably base it on that.

That being said, you could probably get by with nice dark jeans and a nursing friendly top with some jewelry to dress it up, as long as it's not at a super fancy restaurant.

I'm going to a baby shower for my friend's wife in a couple weeks. She and I are friends but I feel kind of weird reaching out to ask how dressy it is.

I tend to dress really casually, jeans pretty much every day. I have one casual fall type of dress, but it's not nursing friendly. I'd really like to not have to buy an outfit for this occasion, especially a dress that won't get a lot of use.
