We converted her crib into a toddler bed, which she used for a few weeks. When we upgraded our bed to a king, we moved the Queen onto her floor. She's been sleeping on it ever since. With so much room to move around without bumping anything, she seems to sleep better.

We transitioned LO at 24 months , 4 months before LO2 arrived. We put her in a twin floor bed even though we have a twin frame. She wasn't a climber and we wanted her to be able to get in and out on her own. I'm sure she'd be fine in a frame bed now but LO2 is mobile now and I like that LO1's room is still a climb & fall-proof spot to stick them both for a few minutes.

Twin bunk bed at 22 months. He is on the bottom and doesn't know how to climb a straight ladder. I figure when number 2 needs to move out of the crib, he will go into the top bunk.

We converted her crib to a toddler bed first so she can get use to sleeping in it open. Two months later we got her a twin bed (she was 29 months).

we just transitioned lo (2.5) last week to her "big girl bed," which is just the crib with a toddler rail. we actually are probably going to switch her again before lo2 arrives in Feb--but to a different toddler bed, so same size and similar shape of bed frame. the toddler bed is about half the cost of a second crib! our los will be sharing a room so we don't have space for a bigger sized bed

At that age we moved to a toddler bed (which was the crib converted/front rail removed). At 3, when we were prepping for LO2, we got LO1 a new bed. It's a full size.

We always had a queen size bed in her room, since it used to be a guest room. She had started insisting on sleeping in that bed well before we were ready to transition her, so when she started climbing out of the crib we let her sleep in that. We never did rails. So now our little 3 year old sleeps in a queen bed.

We just transitioned recently and just converted her crib to the toddler bed by switching out the rail. I think it made the transition much easier (since it was still "her" bed). I know you want to re-use the crib, so that's probably no help though. We plan to buy a new crib for LO2 and not rock the boat too much with LO1.

DD will be 25 months when DD2 arrives. We're currently setting up her big girl room and decided to get rid of my current Ikea twin bed that's in there and just laying the twin mattress on the floor.

When LO#2 was born, her nursery got set up in the guest room. We had a full sized bed in there, so #1 got the full sized bed as his big boy bed, since we stole his toddler bed (converted crib) for the baby. As a bonus, guests now use his bed since we no longer have a guest room.

We have really small rooms in our house so we got a twin mattress. When we transitioned from the crib we left the mattress on the floor. About a year and a half later we got a frame for it.

We had someone give us a toddler bed and someone else give us a twin size bed. For now, he's in the toddler bed. We just thought it would be cozier for him to go to a space that was a similar size as his crib. He has slept in a twin bed on vacation and at my parents' and been fine so I know he'll be ok when we move him.

Once we upgraded her from just the front of the crib off, she got my old queen mattress. Love it. Plenty of room so if we want all three of us can read stories in bed. She has plenty of room since she moves a lot at night. Never used rails on it.

With #2 on the way, we're trying to figure out what kind of bed to upgrade LO#1 to when LO#2 arrives. LO#1 will be about 26 month at the time. What does your toddler use? Pros/cons for your toddler's bed?

ETA- we want to transition at this time so we don't have to get a second crib.
