When we upgraded our bed to a king, we moved the Queen onto her floor. She's been sleeping on it ever since. With so much room to move around without bumping anything, she seems to sleep better. We put her in a twin floor bed even though we have a twin frame. She wasn't a climber and we wanted her to be able to get in and out on her own. She had started insisting on sleeping in that bed well before we were ready to transition her, so when she started climbing out of the crib we let her sleep in that. We never did rails. I think it made the transition much easier (since it was still "her" bed). I know you want to re-use the crib, so that's probably no help though. We plan to buy a new crib for LO2 and not rock the boat too much with LO1. We had a full sized bed in there, so #1 got the full sized bed as his big boy bed, since we stole his toddler bed (converted crib) for the baby. As a bonus, guests now use his bed since we no longer have a guest room. When we transitioned from the crib we left the mattress on the floor. About a year and a half later we got a frame for it. For now, he's in the toddler bed. We just thought it would be cozier for him to go to a space that was a similar size as his crib. He has slept in a twin bed on vacation and at my parents' and been fine so I know he'll be ok when we move him. Love it. Plenty of room so if we want all three of us can read stories in bed. She has plenty of room since she moves a lot at night. LO#1 will be about 26 month at the time. What does your toddler use? Pros/cons for your toddler's bed? ETA- we want to transition at this time so we don't have to get a second crib.
