Posed feels so... fake, which technically it is. Natural just gives you a better feeling for true emotion and personality at the time. And like PPs have said. You can always add props! How they interact with them is still natural! They were cooking a pasta dinner and so while there were lots of pretty props (think pretty dishes and wine bottles) and they were all in dinner party attire it was all candid while they actually cooked dinner. I thought it was a nice way to capture how the family interacts since they had an activity to keep them behaving naturally. Whenever we do family photos/maternity we go natural and outside if possible. I generally like the candid, photojournalistic, natural style most of the time though. </p> <p>For a few things, we have gone to studios, however... like Christmas last year and yearly Halloween portraits. Some studios do a mix of candid and posed in the studio too. In NYC, i really liked PhotoOp on the UWS. PortraitBug took some good pics too for us in the past.</p> <p>I think you and I had the same newborn/maternity photographer though. She has some great non-studio cake smash photos that are very much like the ones posted above. She's so awesome.
