Following this because we want to get a bike seat and are considering the front ones. Good point about weight balance @lamariniere: thanks!

We just got a Bell back seat from a local consignment shop for $20. I asked DH about the front one and he brought up a good point. Being in the back we'll help divert the flying bugs and debris!

I had the ibert when we started riding bikes with DS when he was around 10 months. It is ok, and pretty reassuring for those first rides. However, my son has always been pretty tall/heavy and there is NO way we could have used it up to the 38lb/42inch recommendation. He was just too big and I was off balanced by the time he was a bit over 1 year.

We live in Europe now and use a Hamax seat. Everyone here seems to use this brand. It is similar to this one http://www.amazon.com/Hamax-Smiley-child-schwarz-black/dp/B0063HMS36/ref=sr_1_5?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1373260476&sr=1-5&keywords=Hamax
It is good up to 22kilos. You can also get a separate bike mount part so DH and I each have a mount on our bike and can easily switch the seat from his bike to mine.

I would recommend skipping the front mount seat and go directly to the rear mount. I think it is way more comfortable and safe and you will get much more use out of it.

We have the Wee Ride and have been very happy with it. LO and DH love to go for bike rides together. My husband does have to ride with his knees wider than he would if the seat were not on. Not a big deal, unless you are planning long distance rides.

I found one at my special thrift store for $3! It is made by Topeak and goes on the back of the bike. I am short so the seats that go on the front if the bike would not work for me.

I have a big Burly trailer, which I like. I'd like to get a seat, though, just for simplicity and ease of use. I plan to get a rear mounted Yepp seat. I'd suggest going to a bike store if possible and trying each sort out. They will each impact your steering differently, and you may prefer one over the other.

We use the seat that goes on the back. The seat we have is pretty popular in Brooklyn, I see it all the time at the park and in the streets.

I don't know if this is the exact one because I see diff versions on Amazon but similar:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0028018OW/ref=mp_s_a_1_19?qid=1373231816&sr=8-19&pi=SL75

We have a seat that goes on the back and it was bout $50. It's not as high tech as the wee ride or britax (minimal padding and low-key buckles), but it works well.

It's this one: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/gear/product/progeny.bs.2.child.carrier/548/25022/

On vacation I used the instep trailer as well as the seat in back. He seemed to like them both fine and even cat napped in the trailer. I didn't try the one in front though.

Instead of a seat, we got a bike trailer because they looked a little safer. We got the Via Velo from Costco which is on clearance right now.

DH and I are looking for a seat to put DD in on our bikes. I think I like the ones that go in the front of the bike better than the ones that go in the back, but I don't have any experience with any of them. Do you have one? Any recommendations?

These are two that I'm considering...
Wee Ride - http://www.amazon.com/WeeRide-Kangaroo-Child-Bike-Seat/dp/B001DF68MA/ref=sr_1_2?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1373227744&sr=1-2&keywords=baby+bike+seat
