@sapphire: a friend just built a new house and has a sprinkler system! I haven't ever seen sprinklers in homes before

We have regular smoke alarms and ones that are connected to the alarm system

I don't know what kind other than that they are hard wired into our home's electric with a battery back up and if one goes off they all go off. They are in every bedroom, the hallways & basement.

Dingy, yellowing ones that work! They came with the house and have been set off a few times. No clue what kind, but they look old.

Don't know what kind. But they are connected to our home control system and will call the fire department to the house if we don't turn it off within a certain period of time

Nest. They are pricey so we only have two (one in the kitchen and one in the upstairs hallway). I love them though. We have cheaper ones in the bedrooms. We've had a couple of instances where LO's sippy cup lids fell to the bottom of the dishwasher and were melting (no fire, though) and the alarm alerted us that there was smoke being detected in the kitchen before we even smelled anything. It also sends alerts to our phones through an app.

I have no idea. Whatever kind the builder put in the house when they built it 3.5 years ago!

When we moved into our house a few years ago the previous owners only had two smoke alarms in the house, and none in the bedrooms. So the first thing we did was go out and buy some, install, call it a day. DH was just watching a video on types of alarms, ionization and photoelectric-I had no idea there were different kinds! I just figured different brands, price ranges, combo with carbon monoxide. We got a middle of the road one and a separate carbon monoxide detector. We have the ionization ones, now I'm thinking we need to get the photoelectric ones as well.

What type do you have? One or the other, combo?
