@prettylizy: thanks for the tips. looks like i am leaning towards swim diaper with trunks over it and the rash guard.

I wish i could take everything with me and decide there, but i don't want him to wear it unless i wash it first and once i wash it, i figure i can't return it anymore!

@chopsuey119: thanks for making me check! there is neither buttons or velcro at the bottom of one piece. It was easy to get on him because there is a zipper that goes halfway down the back. But I would have to take it off completely to do a diaper change - definitely returning it!! and the fact that it is short sleeved just means less of his skin is protected. Not to mention that trunks and shirts i bought are so much cuter :)

I just had one friend IRL tell me she thought the one piece was better when she took her baby to the beach, but I wanted a few more opinions.

We have an adorable 1 piece for when we do indoor swimming and I put her in a swim diaper under that. When we're outside it's swim diaper, rash gurad and a cloth swim diaper overtop to make a cute outfit! lol! Diva has to look cute!

@PurpleUnicorn: since he's so little I'd go with the long sleeved shirt and the trunks. It'll be easier to change diapers and etc. And if you decide you wanna take his top off you can.

I would return the 1 piece short sleeve if you can. Or.. it's always good to have options too! Does it have velcro or snap buttons on the bottom?

@chopsuey119: I wasn't sure what you meant by a rash guard so i googled it and i think that is what i meant by the SPF 50 shirt, I have 2 of them. But the one piece also has SPF protection. Though the one piece is short sleeved and the rash guards are long sleeved so I am thinking they might be better.

I had a one piece for DD and used swim diapers.
I would put swim diapers on your DS regardless of what he wears..

This year I'm getting a rash guard for both kids. Wanna protect them from the sun!

I am going to the beach soon with my 5 month old DS. I have a one piece, a pair of trunks with a long sleeved SPF shirt, and I also have re-usable swim diapers. I think I went overboard, wondering if I should return any of it. Or buy an extra of one kind in particular?

Which do you prefer for your LO?

Also, if I use the swim trunks, do I put a regular diaper under or the re-usable swim diaper?
