After we moved here she mostly made me sandwiches. My mother would rather die than buy any of the following for her family: white bread, sugar cereal, sodas, fruit snacks, any kind of packaged cakes/desserts, individual bags of chips, or candies on any date outside christmas, halloween, or maybe Easter.</p> <p>My after school snacks were delicious, but things like shredded cheese melted onto plain shredded wheat (we called these Cheesy Wheats...it is super good), or PB on celery, or trail mix, or fresh fruit.</p> <p>The only cookies my mom would buy were Nilla Wafers (because my dad liked them). It's not like we never had sweets, its just that they were homemade. On a rare occasion, she would include a juicebox. She said all of us either had to buy lunch in the cafeteria or pack our own. So in K I bought my lunch every day and starting in 1st grade, I packed my own lunch.</p> <p>Pretty much always a sandwich, drink in a thermos (we never had sodas or juice at home, so I guess it was water or milk), and a ziplock baggie of popcorn or crackers. Verrrry rarely some chips, but my mom also didn't buy those very often. Sometimes something like grapes.</p> <p>When I was in HS, I started eating in the cafeteria again because you could buy things like fried burritos and pizza and hamburgers, haha.
