I asked my doctor about continuing the Zantac while the Prevacid kicked in, but she didn't like the idea, and suggested I use Mylanta as an in-between measure instead (we have been using aluminum-free Mylanta as a backstop when the Zantac isn't working well enough). It sounds like it's well worth the suffering for the end result! HORRIBLE. It lasted around 10 days, but then it was like a whole new child was put into my life. I still can remember how shocked I was to see how much happier my kiddo was all the time. I thought he was a happy baby before, but it was such a game changer for him when he actually felt better. Our doctor didn't say anything about continuing Zantac the firs 1-2 weeks after switching to Prevacid, but during those horrible days, I did a lot of googling and I think some other doctors to recommend that, so I would definitely check with yours because I think it maybe would have helped. We actually found that the transition was totally fine (if you consider the fact that DS was already uncomfortable because he had outgrown the maximum dose of the Zantac). We noticed that it was easier to get him to take the new meds, which had a fruity flavor instead of the gross mint of the Zantac. His reflux significantly improved within a week. We're going to switch to Prevacid today or tomorrow. I've read all sorts of horror stories about the "acid battle" when you make the switch - was this your experience? What was it like for you, and when did it end?
