It was horrible. She had gotten to the point where she was only waking 3x per night and then she started waking more and more often. It stunk because it also coincided with her getting out of the swaddle, outgrowing the rock and play, and starting daycare/back to work for me. At the peak (between 4.5 and 5 months), she was waking 8-10 times every single night and DH and I were losing our minds. We tried sleeping training at around 16 weeks and it was too early. We waited about 5 weeks and tried again and it worked (she went back to only waking to nurse, so 2-3x per night).

Hope that doesn't scare you. I think it was much worse for us than some people. In better news, it's been 2 years since then and she has never had another sleep regression.

I'm not going to lie...it was pretty horrible for us. He'd been sleeping through the night for about a month and all of a sudden was up for 2-3 hours in the middle of the night. Just awake, and upset that he was awake. He loved a paci and was in a crib, falling asleep on his own, so didn't have a sleep crutch. Turning over seemed to be what woke him-he'd get stuck and super upset. I'd say this wakeful time lasted a few weeks, and then resolved, but then we went through a rough two months of short naps (which could be unrelated). This link was helpful to me: http://www.mannlymama.com/2012/12/wonder-week-19-aka-4-month-sleep-regression/ Fingers crossed you somehow skip this!

We never went through it with LO 1 or 2 but LO 3's sleep got worse for about a month and a half! She started waking about 1-2 hours after going down and maybe one more time. She was STTN or only waking once before that. She is 6 months and I think it has been much better this week.

He started waking up a lot more--from 0-1x a night prior, to 2-3x a night once it hit. His sleep was bad until we sleep trained at 6 months, and then got better and then worse again.

From 3.5 months to 5 months his sleep got progressively worse. He went from falling asleep on his own and STTN to waking nearly every hour. Lots of tears all around. Got better around 5 months.

My baby started waking up 8 or more times a night. We taught her to fall asleep on her own around 4.5 months and that reduced the wakings to 3-4 times a night. Finally at 6 months we sleep trained and now she usually only wakes one time a night to eat. She's still pretty sensitive though, and any little disturbance will throw her off. She's never been a good sleeper though.

Nothing really happened around 4 months. Now, just before he turned 5 months, his sleep fell apart (that was 2 weeks ago) and it's still horrible. He wakes up every 2 hours on the dot at night. Used to wake up 1-2x a night. I don't know if 'ts the 4 month sleep regression, teething, something else. He does have bad reflux and stomach issues so that's always a possibility for him, at least.

IT SUCKS!!! I am soooo tired.

it was...hard. LO had started sleeping through the night (6-6, no wakeups) at 3 months. around 4.5 months bedtime became very difficult (hysterical crying) until we realized he was over-tired and needed bedtime to start even earlier. also, he began waking up a few times a night, but a paci would soothe him. this lasted about a month, and then he was back on track.

Based on what I read, it occurs because babies start waking more on their own and if they don't know how to fall asleep without certain things (rocking, nursing) you're screwed! Lol ;)
I'm sure that's not always the case, But makes sense. I read it's basically like if we fell asleep in bed and woke up in the kitchen floor. We'd be like Wtf! Same with a baby falling asleep in your arms and then waking up in a bed.
We ensured da could fall asleep by himself and we had no regression. Just a couple earlier than normal wake ups but he fell back to sleep himself with a soother.
Good luck!

@bluestriped bee: Yeah it really is. My eyes popped open to see the juxtaposition of the people who weren't bothered at all versus the people who were totally destroyed. Huge range. I guess that's parenting in a nutshell though.

It happened for us a few days ago. It hasn't been every night. My LOs are home 5 months but but they are 14 months adjusted. One night, it was mainly DS and a little of DD, but usually it's DS that is up.

Heh, I posted this same question when I was in your shoes:

It wound up being a little rough, but not horrible, for us.

LO will be 4 months in a couple days. I've heard lots about the 4 month sleep regression here and am dreading it! What was it like for your LO? How long did it last? Did things ever go back to normal? I think I've been spoiled because DD is a good sleeper and wakes up only once at night and sometimes not at all. Any tips for surviving it? Should I stock up on ☕️ and 🍷?
